triglycerides high

Hi everyone, hope you are all well.

I have just had bloods done and been told my Triglycerides are to high! Does anyone know how to get them down. I don’t eat a very good diet as I have no money due to the universal credit system! So my diet is prob to blame. I am on Arorvastatin 40mg, I couldn’t tolerate 80mg but it looks like I may have to go back up to 80mg. I have still not started rehab due to my bp being to high but have been put on the waiting list for this. My HA was in December. Any advice would be very welcome. TIA ❤️

Any idea how I can Lower them naturally?

Have been doing some reading AND if had gout flare up YOU could try eating cherries 🍒 or banana 🍌 as usally triglycerides are found with high levels of uric acid too

Clearly yam no expert but is all tado with CVD stuff like that

And that’s natural way of lowering making inert stuff in blood

Have you spoken to your medical team bout how to lower your Triglycerides? They're the only ones who have medical training, I would be asking for their advice regarding diets. Maybe you could ask to be referred to a dietician.

I take a drug called Lipitor which I believe is particularly effective on triglycerides. Have been on it for years.

I changed to whole food plant based diet, no fat, loads of pulses, whole grains, veg and fruit . Triglycerides are now 0.80. Hdl 0.8 and ldl 0.8. The key is not to cut out carbs but to eat whole grains and unprocessed as much as possible.

Whilst I am an omnivore (that's why I have incisors) I totally agree with your comment about carbs. Sugar and processed ones should be avoided and fruit limited because of fructose but keeping to your 5-a-day minimum.

I now base my food shopping on what greens and other veg are in season, cheap or on offer. I also use frozen, as they have the same nutrients. I do a lot of stir frying of veg, and add a bit of fish (tinned sardines are great) or chicken. Herbs and spices are great for flavour. I have halved my shopping bill, lost 1/2 stone and feel much better. Just needs forward planning, and looking online for veggie recipies.

Do you stir fry the sardines? Never though of doing that before.

I just add them to the wok once the veg are done. I am the wok queen!

Veg and fruit can be frozen which is cheaper. Just avoid 'useless' carbs like pasta, bread and ordinary potatoes. Find out what time your local shop reduces produce and shop then, that's what I do. Obviously don't eat sweets, cakes etc!

Hi, I was in the same position with my triglycerides and decided to try and reduce them with lifestyle changes. I cut out all sugary foods and greatly reduced the amount of potatoes I ate. I only have brown rice in small quantities and all the bread I eat is wholemeal or multigrain. At the same time I upped the amount of veg and the only meat i eat is chicken. I am not on a diet, just changed the way I eat! I have treats occasionally and don't worry about it.

Added some extra exercise as well and managed to halve my triglycerides in six months. Eating healthily does not need to be expensive, a large supply of fresh veg costs a fraction of the cost of red meat or convenience foods!

If you really want to succeed you will!

Good luck

Hello

I am on low income so know how hard it is. Make your meals from scratch don’t eat ready meals or processed foods. Eat seasonal veg and fruit. Only eat good carbs cut out the white carbs. Batch cook, freeze, if you have difficulty cooking or working out what is good for you read and follow the heart healthy recipes. Your heart and body will really appreciate it. As others have said frozen food and veg are great. Cut meat down to a minimum that’s if you eat meat, tin fish is great. There are ways that you can eat well with work.

Good luck

It is best to cook for yourself and avoid all processed foods, sugar and simple carbohydrate foods such as white rice, white bread, white pizza dough and pasta made from white flour.

Focus on eating lots of vegetables, legumes, nuts, seeds, fruits and small portions of animal proteins. In effect, the Mediterranean Diet which is widely considered among the best overall diets for human health.

It is also important to exercise daily. Start by walking and working your way up gradually to one hour per day.

Hi,

Also had high Trics that my GP struggled to get down. Less fatty and card diet did help. Ended up with a hospital referral to a specialist lipid clinic. The most dramatic difference was a regular prescription for Fenobirate 200mg, OD) - fast and maintained response

Wow that’s fab. I’ve to try changing my diet and up my Atorvastatin to 80mg. If nothing happens I will ask to be referred.
