Some help for the Ladies

When I had major OHS 4 years ago, I was left with sternum wires which aggrevate the site and because I am very thin, they are sore. I also have a pacemaker fitted on my left shoulder area which is very close to the surface . This can make wearing bras very painful and for the last four years I have worn a very oversized bra for comfort over looks!

I have been to a few major stores for bra fittings but have never found anything suitable and despite my protestations some assistants can be quite brutal !

Yesterday, in Brighton, I discovered Victoria's Secrets, a shop that I would never normally venture in to. Fortunately they were able to fit me in and the young lady that I was alotted was very kind and respectful of my age. I bought two "sports bras" which have no fiddly hooks and eyes as you slip them on over your head. They are made of the softest material and are a pleasure to wear. They are probably not suitable for anyone who has just undergone surgery because you have to lift your arms but post op they will be fine.

Im glad i had the courage to venture in!

hi. M&S also do sleep bras which slip over your head and provide some support although there are no wires etc. i wear mine around the house. I think they are about £14 so much cheaper than Victorias Secret. Pleased that you got sorted though 😊.

hi. That’s a shame. I ordered mine online and then just picked them up from the store.

Morning, sounds like the long wait was worth it. Sounds like a lovely experience with a successful outcome, glad you enjoyed it and have some lovely underwear. X

Morning,

I was just going to suggest sports bras. When I had my OHS I got 3 front zip up ones. I was hooked after that. I loved them and got mine from M&S. I am so happy you found something suitable 😄😄

Thank you JD. Sometimes its the little things that help and lets face it, life is pretty miserable at the moment!

Yes, I’ve found Victoria’s Secret to be very helpful too. The fitters are by no means young girls straight from school. They are well trained and know what they’re talking about.

What a lovely post Becks, it's great when someone gives us unexpected and really helpful advice! I've always been a bit of a skinny minnie too and after my triple bypass in February this year found finding a suitable bra that didn't irritate my wound to be an absolute nightmare. I ended up not bothering with one while at home and it's the first time in my life I was grateful that I've never been exactly well-blessed in the lady front department! Now I'm back at work I'm back to the old front-loaders. Wish I'd known about Victoria's Secret and I'll definitely be dropping in next time I'm in town. It's almost impossible these days to find a proper bra-fitter. Like you say, some measure-uppers can be brutal. We had a really old-fashioned department store in town donkeys years ago where everyone who was getting married used to go to be measured up by Moira the Basque Lady as she was known, (everyone was buying basques for under their wedding dresses) - she was brilliant - then the store closed down and we've been stymied ever since!

Cee Cee im glad to have been of some help to you albeit in a small way. When you are this thin, people dont understand how important it is to find something comfortable to wear in your size!

In my eyes, Victoria's Secrets was a shop for youngsters with amazing figures so it was with a lot of trepidation that I stepped in! Im a 32 A cup (almost) but went up one size for real comfort.

I shop a lot in the youngsters shops like New Look because they go down to a size 6/8. They have lovely t shirts and summer trousers.

Now to find a swimsuit that doesnt make me look like Olive Oil 😒!

LOL - oh I know that Olive Oil feeling Becks! 😂 and you've definitely been a help and I also now have a valid excuse for a day trip to town with my sister. One little bonus I noticed this year is that I've been able to buy Airtex tops (I like them under round-necked jumpers as the collar hides my skinny neck), in the kids back to school ranges (age 15-16) - at really bargain prices for 2 or 3 packs in the supermarkets - they've loads of different colours these days too. I spent my twenties and thirties shopping in Tammy Girl (the teenage part of Dorothy Perkins) until they closed, their sizes were perfect.

I remember, as a very naive teenager, asking my Mum why I didn't have a front like her and my big sister and she just said "Oh, don''t worry love, you take after your Dad". Charming! 😂 I'm a 36A, but only because I have a broader back, my sister's the complete opposite, although still relatively skinny. She'd been wearing a 38 or something for years until I took her to see Moira the miracle basque lady. Moira measured her up properly and it turned out she was a 32 triple E, but even after finding the right size she also had her try on about ten different brands until she found the perfect one as all the brands are different sizes too. That day was a revelation for my sister - she kept the new bra on leaving the shop after buying a few more and put her old one in the bin!

When I was 18, I was a 36C and then about ten years ago i went up to a 38D but for some reason i have lost loads of weight and everything has disappeared!

Ive discovered Vinted where i sell my size 10 - 14 clothes and this summer i have had to change my complete wardrobe. I looked at having clothes altered but it was cheaper to buy new.

Like you, my sisters are well endowed and I admit i do get envious of them.

We cant find anything sinister to explain my weight loss so I can carry on eating cakes and biscuits! Ive just made peanut cookies so they may help!

I'm jealous now - I'm not allowed the cakes and biscuits after the HA & bypass, although I will admit to the very occasional lapse! 😘
