Blocked stent

Hi all I’m new here and finding it very helpful I’m a 40yr old father of two and happily married .I recently suffered heart attack and cardiac arrest at home and cpr from my amazing wife saved my life .i was made stable then rushed to hospital was given emergency stent in hospital then , in and out of induced coma until I was ok to go home since then I have been back in for another stent on other artery as a routine appointment ended up having two .. but they forums that the stent put in 3 weeks ago has booked ?! They tried to unblock butt ran out of time due to ink usage and pain relief .. I basically am now home awaiting an appointment to retry and unblock it butt could be after Christmas, just feels strange that I’m sitting here with a completely blocked artery/stent anyone had similar with stent blockage ? ... also the artery has chosen to go behind the bloked stent and join up a little vein and coming back up the bottom so giving little bit of blood flow sorry for the long explanation butt I feel good now I’ve actually spoken out rather than just reading all the posts 😊

Hi Alfie,

What a scary experience, and how wonderful your wife knew to do some good quality CPR.

All I can say, just go with the flow. The whole journey is utterly bizarre, and 6 1/2 months after my heart attack it doesn’t feel any less so.

Hearts are very clever and do seem to grow these little side roads to keep us going, mine had done the same. I, like you had a stent to fix the HA but they couldn’t deal with the other stuff they found at the time. I feel like I’ve become a bit of a hobby, and they do a bit now and then!

My advice to you, which I’m sure your docs have told you, is to have a very low index of suspicion - we have left the Kansas of ‘oooh, what’s that weird pain’ to ‘if it’s anything vaguely near HA symptoms you get on the 9s - don’t mess about. Have they given you any timescales of when they plan to fix the broken bits? I know some of it is to allow you time to recover from the HA.

I’m a mum to a 13yr old and 14 yr old, and as trying as they are I would rather not check out just yet!

hi alfie i was a bit luckier than you in that i was admitted to hospital in may with unstable angina. was kept in until they could get me to the cath lab which took 2 weeks. angio discovered restenosis on original HA stent from the previous february. put in a bigger one that time but i never really picked up after it. had a stress test at scheduled cardio appointment which showed problems that i can’t say as i never asked. never recovered well from that and ended up in hospital again 2 days later. luckily no wait for cath lab and was taken the next day. they did pressure tests to see if there was a problem with the artery but it was all good. however had to have a stent put in another artery. iv also got a blockage in a smaller artery which would be very difficult to stent. that’s giving me a bit of trouble at the moment but not pressuthe pNic button just yet. guess i’m trying to say is we’re all different and it’s a bit of a postcode lottery with treatment. but if you need fixed it will be done. we have to be our own advocates in this age of budget cuts cut if you feel you need help seek it. good luck my friend❤️shiona

Hi alfiebloom, my husband had a massive heart attack & cardiac arrest at the age of 42, very similar story, in a coma on life support etc. My neighbour carried out CPR with my help. Unfortunately, his artery was totally blocked & completely inoperable, he's lived with the blocked artery since. That all happened in 1997, he changed his lifestyle, followed the BHF advice re diet & exercise and he's never had any further problems with his artery, though he does now have HF due to the extent of damage to his heart. Please try not too worry too much.

Yes, it was over the Christmas period in 1997. Can I suggest that you talk to your medical team or the BHF nurses before starting any diets as not all diets suit everyone. For instance the esselstyn diet would actually be detrimental to my husband due to potassium issues,
