Hi, within the last week or so I have been suffering with being light headed all day which is interfering with day to day life. A visit to my Dr's discovered that my BP was dropping when stood up. This makes sense as I am fine led down. I Have been on Aladopimine 5mg and Ramipril 10mg for over 10 yrs so the Dr said that I may now be over medicating and told me to stop the Ramipril. Having now stopped 4 days later I have not felt any improvement. I was wondering if anyone else had had a similar experience and may know when I could expect to feel some improvement

I suffered this when I had my amputation and was seriously ill losing 15kg in 5 weeks. The issue wasn't addressed until. I moved to rehab. My Lisinopril was stopped but I continued on Bisoprolol. In addition I was given a medication whose name escapes me to prevent postural hypertension. This was removed after some weeks and a lower dose of Lisinopril introduced basically for kidney protection as I am diabetic. Despite regaining the weight and some more I am still on only 25% of my original dose of Lisinopril. So it does take some weeks to work through the system.
Thank you Michael that's helpful and reassuring I always thought (naively) stopping a med would see overnight results. Also after 10 yrs of taking a drug without a problem I never expected an adverse reaction that I experienced. Best wishes going forward.
Dear Ady34
Just joining in to wish you a warm welcome to the forum, I hope that you find it as supportive and knowledgeable as I and many others do.
drugs are a strange thing aren’t they, they never seem to do what you think they will do and certainly on stopping and starting them.
The only advice I can add is to keep a note on how you are feeling because it’s easy to forget how you were doing after a short time.
I would imagine that you should contact your Dr again if getting rid of that drug didn’t do the job you wanted it to do.
Take care and looking forward to hearing more of your story
Thanks Blue, the onset of feeling light headed and fear of collapsing was very startling and not helped by being anxious about it. The last thought was my BP meds causing the prob as I had been taking them for years. However a visit to A&E and a fantastic Dr who did all the usual tests came to the conclusion as my BP dropped when stood up it could be that I was now over medicated and advised me to stop one of the tablets which was Ramipril. Unfortunately I forgot to ask him how long before I would start feeling better, but I have since been told that it takes a while for your cardio system to re-adjust.
Thinking back over the years I have suffered with bouts of feeling light headed but just shrugged it off as an off day. My BP was never really high originally and was advised to go on meds to stave off future problems. At the time I was prescribed either Alodopimine or Ramipril how ever when one didn't have any affect I was prescribed the other on top. The Ramipril was 10mg dose and I. Just wondering if that was to high?
I had heart attack 2016 followed by 3 lots of stents and all the usual meds, including ramapril, at 7.5 mg. I was often light headed upon standing. Over a year reduced to 1.25mg. Less giddy, however was being affected by angina, so cardiology team started work on meds including Entresto 49/51. This made me very light headed, especially at first. This didn't settle so now on Entresto 24/26. This is better, but in the hours after taking dose, I have be very wary when standing up. I tend to accept that manageable light headedness for me is an acceptable compromise of the protective effect of the medication. Blood pressure at giddy times times can be 82/50, but more normally about 98/58
I'm suffering with low BP at the moment, I'm also on Entresto 49/51, have been for about 2 years. I feel light headed and lethargic. I've been trying to increase my BP using rehydration/electrolyte tabs with limited success. Waiting to hear from my HF nurse to see if my meds can be tweaked.
Reducing Entresto definitely helped me. On the higher dose, I definitely lacked any umph. I too need to remind myself about hydration. It's not until I am drinking a pint of weak squash I realise just how thirsty I was. It seems I don't get the message that I need to drink
I've found that the ORS hydration tabs are good. You can use one tab in a pint of water to replace electrolytes and they don't have that salty taste. Just taken my BP 82/66 😟
Hi there. I have dilated cardiomyopathy and am 37. I was in 15mg of ramipril for about 15 years. I stopped when I found it hard to care for my daughter in hospital for a few months. The dizziness at night was too much. When I restarted in a low dose of 2.5mg I couldn’t handle it. I felt like a complete space cake, exhausted and very emotional. I had a six month break and have started on candestartan (just 5mg) so I’ve a way to go to get to an optimal dose. I feel slightly drowsy some days but I nothing that can’t stop me from working and caring for my daughter. I’m relieved because I was worried I wouldn’t be able to handle anything. Try chatting with your cardiologist about an alternative drug :-). All the best
Many thanks for your reply and to others. Like some has said it takes quite a while for the drug to leave your system and for your cardio vascular system to adjust. I naively thought, stop drug, feel better next day. Obviously not.
Hi, Ady - as others have said, it may take some time for your body to adjust. Also, when standing up, take it slowly, I.e. move to the edge of your seat first, support yourself using your hands on the chair arms/table edge before slowly standing up so that if you were to lose your balance, you are more likely to be able to control that and return to your seating position. Hope your symptoms reduce/disappear over time.Regards,
I suffered this lightheadness too. I was on 2.5mg of Bisoprolol. And Lao had low blood pressure readings. Spoke to my doctor who halved my dosage to 1.25mg and lightheadedness disappeared overnight and no problem since. Hope this helps.
