Bobkins. I have never tried archery but I would imagine that it would involve pulling and putting stress on chest muscles and your sternum? Where you not giving a list of does and don’t from your cardio team? I would imagine around sixteen weeks to allow proper healing. I am presuming your surgery involved opening up your sternum and at the same time they cut through a lot of muscle. I would check with your cardio as you could cause a lot of damage.

They said 12 weeks+, which in working on, but I'm looking to see if there are any actual examples. It's 12 weeks enough, did it take others longer etc. I only get video consults with my cardio surgeon or team which is fine, but I'm just looking for examples from others😀Ps. I'm not intending to risk any compromise of my wound until it's fully healed

HiI did a wee bit of archery many years ago and given the way you pull on the bow I think you are going to need to build up to your archery.

Look to see what exercises you can do for building your chest muscles back up and start gently. Also, can you start back with a weaker bow?

I was a fairly fit 49 when I had my ohs, thru the sternum, and a year later I could still feel I was overdoing it with some DIY mechanicing which pulled my chest in a similar way to archery but I'm sure putting more force thru my chest.

Your body takes a long time to get back to normal but it does get there. Don't push too hard and listen to your body and you should be fine.

I'm a hill walker and the earliest that I could carry a backpack was 3 months post op. Then I was told to be extremely careful for another 3 months. I healed well and it was not an issue. Patience is required!

Hey, fellow archer here!

I'm not sure what your draw weight is, but mine is about 33lbs and I've been warned off this for a few months, with advice to build back up to it, so might need to look at training limbs unless the club has any spare.

My condition is different though, I have suspected myocarditis/pericarditis.
