Hi, I'm on the waiting list for an urgent Cabgx3.

Quick question, would it be helpful to buy a rise and recliner chair for when I come home or would it be a waste of money. Will i be ok on the sofa?

Thanks,Susie

Hi. I nearly bought one of these because I wasn’t sure what to expect after open heart surgery. As it happens I didn’t bother and I don’t regret it. You will be encouraged to be mobile in hospital and to get in and out of a regular armchair. By the time you get home you should be able to walk and climb the stairs. They won’t let you home otherwise. I found that the sofa was fine and I popped a pillow behind my back for extra support. Unless you want to purchase a rise and recline for other reasons I don’t think you’ll need one for your rehabilitation. Hope all goes well with the op. Best wishes.

Great advice, thank you, I don't think I'll bother x

Hello :-)

Unless you actually want one I would not get one personally

They taught me a trick in the Hospital

You wriggle yourself till you are sat on the edge of your chair or settee then you rock back and forth about 3 times using the arms of your chair or settee and then it helps you to stand up without to much discomfort

It worked for me :-) x

To be honest I don't really have room for one so I think I'll take your advice and give it a miss! Thank you x

Hello :-)

I am sure you will cope fine without one :-)

Save the money and treat yourself to something nice :-) x

I already had a recliner when I had my bypass and I slept on that for the first month when I came out of hospital as I couldn't get comfortable in bed.It was a godsend.Just my opinion and good luck.x

We have bought an electric bed (we needed a new bed anyway) so I stick with that for now x

Susie. One of the exercises I had during rehab was sitting and standing up as many times as you can for one minute every ten minutes this was part of the early routine. It’s good for building up your stamina and gets you breathing well. As long as you don’t pull yourself up all is fine. Good luck.
