INR on the rise at last.

Hi everyone, I went to the Warfarin clinic this morning and my INR was up to 2.7 from 1.6. After being stuck at 1.6 for 3 weeks the nurse now thinks it has risen too fast ! Seems you can't win with Warfarin.

Best wishes

Annette

It is a very badly behaved medication. Mine is a steady two point something but once the hospital rang as for no apparent reason it went up to 6.6! There is another medication where you don't need blood tests. I decided to stick with regular tests.

At the moment mine is in the low threes but target is 2.5. Unfortunately I don't have any choice but warfarin as now have a mechanical valve. Bought my own testing machine now and getting my training at the clinic tomorrow, will especially make life a lot easier once I get back to work.

Yep been there. I was on weekly testing for ages , then fortnightly. I am currently on a month until my next test for the first time since May. The frustrating thing is that I know I am going to need prophylactic antibiotics in January and it will upset the INR again.

Frustrating but the warfarin is a small thing to pay for good health.

You will get there but I am afraid it takes time and blood tests.

Hi thanks for your replies, I saw my GP today and he has prescribed steroids and antibiotics for bronchitis so no doubt they will affect the reading when I go back on Friday.

I would like to do home testing so will look into that, as Mary said I will get there in the end.

Best wishes

Strange thing. Warfarin. Mines been great for months got a call to have a new pacemaker fitted and it dropped to 1.5. If you take antibiotics it will go mad!!

Hi Jill222, I am taking antibiotics and steroids at the moment so goodness knows what the reading will be on Friday when I go back to the clinic.

I asked my GP about the interactions but he said as I have bronchitis the INR going mad is the lesser of two evils !

Oh well keep taking the tablets and hope for the best.
