question relating to high cholesterol

Hello there, would anyone be able to help with finding out if another substitute medication for statins. As I’m struggling with side effects.

Hi Lavender987, I am aware that there are injections for specific people who have high cholesterol. However I believe there are some very strict NICE guidelines so I don’t think it is easy to access. If you are struggling with one particular statin your GP can move you on to try other statins of which there are several, assuming that has not already happened. If that doesn't work then other forms of medication are available including, for some, injections. However you should be first discussing your situation with your GP who will be to able to prescribe the most appropriate medication for you given what options are available all matched to your medical circumstances.

The reality seems to be that diet etc may reduce cholesterol by a very small amount but any meaningful reduction requires statins.

As others have said there are other statins you can try so if you haven’t already discussed this with your GP it could be your answer. I struggled for a month but these past two months I appear to have settled down although not entirely and believe like most things your body accepts the change and you also accept some smaller changes.

My husband can't take any kind of statins.He's been prescribed Ezetimibe which treats his cholesterol.

I take Praluent 150 mg once a month, it is an injection. You should see your cardiologist, Dr. first as this is a prescription. It has had really lowered my colestroel quite a bit.

I have been prescribed Fenofibrate because I can not take statins. Fibrates lower cholesterol and so far, these tablets seem to be agreeing with me.

I have been on the Inclisiran trial, for about 4 years, though it is now licensed and available for certain groups. I have had no trouble on the trial, thought all subjects continue with existing statins (if already on them), and as a double blind trial we are all randomly assigned to either group and are not told.So I may be on the placebo.
