HI all, recently been to the doctor and been diagnosed with varicose veins veins and varicose eczema. Doctor told me to get some compression hosiery but didn't offer any any help about treating the eczema. Can anyone shed a light on what cream or ointment they have used?

regards Sheena x

Hello :-)

Not very helpful from your Doctor

There is Diprobase which is a well known one but depending on how bad the eczema is

I would ask your pharmacist or even phone your Doctors back again and explain you were given no idea what to use could they find out for you

Also I will put you a link to two other Communities on here about skin conditions they may be able to help you :-)

I hope you find something that works :-) x

I suggest you read this

If you can't face another trip to your GP(!) I suggest you talk to a pharmacist.

There are plenty of emollient type creams to choose from, such as E45, or Dermol, or Cetraben. If something stronger was required, like a steroid ointment , I would have expected a prescription to have been given to you.

I will read it thanks LowerField.Regards Sheena x

Dear you,

It flabbergastes me that the DR only seem to do half a job now and expect us to fill in all the other parts.

Even your compression stockings should really be on prescription as they are not all the same, i found that out when I brought spare ones when I needed to wear them and the difference was amazing I couldn’t get them on they were that strong.

And has he/she told you how long to wear them for? With your heart problems?

As for the veins and the eczema my late Dad swore { which he did a lot } about using Horse Chestnut Cream and I must admit that it seemed to stop them flaring up and certainly the itch and flakes went from his eczema.

Now I’m not teaching you how to suck eggs { disgusting thought } but you have to run this by your Dr first, Holland and Barrett sell it but just because its “natural” doesn’t mean it can’t be harmful.

Hope it helps

I was prescribed Fucibet by GP for inflamation and eczema .I did not have to use it for very long and it did the trick.

Compression stockings are easy to acquire. Most pharmacist or online show you how to measure your leg to make sure you have the correct size. I use a lot when travelling. Your pharmacist will advise on a suitable cream.

Do you think to start with flight socks or should I go straight for compression? Regards Sheena x

Flight socks may not be tight enough. But compression (TED) socks are probably best suited. Discuss with you local pharmacist who will advise.

Sheena. Hopefully you find a solution soon. Should have said TED stockings are available short or long. Worth asking what is best.
