Angiogram tomorrow and scared

I'm lucky. They've had a cancellation at the hospital foe tomorrow so I can get my Angiogram done 4 weeks earlier than expected . Just sitting waiting at the hospital pharmacist for Clopidogrel. I guess I'm on here looking for words of calm. I've been told I have severe calcification in 3 vessels. What if I need bypass? What will it feel like.what if I feel too much pain or feel faint. what if I need to cough? I have loads of worries. I know many of you guys have been through much worse. Am I a wuss?

The angiogram doesn’t hurt I’ve watched loads then I watched my own which was a bit different when I realised how bad things were, but honestly don’t worry about it, it’s got to be done to repair you. If you need a bypass well I’m not going to lie it’s very scary I had a quadruple 5 weeks ago any yes I was scared and yes it was painful but your in the hands of a surgeon who does these all the time and the pain is well managed. The more you worry about it the longer your recovery will be. If your really that scared and worried ask to speak to a councillor these fears are that common that hospitals have people to speak to you to help. This is your life in their hands you wouldn’t be normal if you weren’t scared I’m still scared 5 weeks on.

Good luck but you don’t really need it.

Did you really have access to a councillor? I certainly didn't and I needed a bypass.

What part of the country do you come from?

I love the idea of being able to speak to a councillor, I didn't find this place until after my bypass but in many ways get lots of help and support here.

From reading a lot of replies it does sound as if facilities vary throughout the UK so it is worth doing some research regarding what is available in your area.

I am from S. Wales and have found the cardiac rehab excellent but had nothing leading up to the procedure (either one)

Quite understandable, fear of the unknown. But just be assured that besides the cardiologist there is a well rehearsed team of absolutely qualified people that are there to assist. I've learnt to visualise myself in a happy place, works sometimes. All the best. Moni

Ask for something to relax you and hopefully it will be all over before you know it. You are surrounded by a good team so try not to worry, easier said than done I know . Good luck.😊

Hi, I’ve been through an angiogram twice now, one 5 years ago and one recently. It didn’t hurt. I had sedation in the recent one and it helps you relax. I had 3 stents fitted 5 years ago. After my angioplasty where the stents were fitted I had counselling which helped. My last angiogram took 15 minutes so it’s not a long time. I know it’s scary to go through anything like this but you’re in good hands.

Not what you're looking for?
