Hi

General guidelines here
nhs.uk/conditions/coronary-...
We are all different, so our reactions to medical procedures will be too, added to which stents can be positioned in several locations if they are needed which may mean a potentially different response in any one individual, so there is no 'one size fits all' recovery time. Otherwise hope all goes well and you recover soonest.
Thanks
They let me watch when I had mine. I declined sedation. Quite interesting. Eating lunch half an hour later. Off home after 24 hours observation. Felt fine ever since.
I developed AF (an irregular heartbeat) during the procedure (it was explained as 'your heart doesn't like being messed around with and it's protesting!'), so they kept me in overnight under observation; the other 3 ladies having it done at the same time all went home after a couple of hours. The only reason I knew I had AF was because of the heart monitor; I wasn't conscious of any symptoms apart from the fact that I could now breathe deeply without coughing and felt so much better after the procedure! The AF was quickly sorted with medication and time for my heart to get over its tantrum. I had a few days' rest - a few needle-like pains in my chest when I woke up, but they quickly disappeared with paracetamol - and (as I'm self-employed and don't get sick pay) I was back at my desk within a week and really feeling the benefits of my reopened arteries. Obviously, the recovery period is different if you have a job involving lifting or driving, but just be guided by what they tell you at the hospital. Although the procedure sounds scary, it was far easier than I imagined - a bit strange, obviously, but not at painful - and the benefits speak for themselves.
Two stents after heart attack, home next day. The overnight was purely because of the HA. Recovery from stents was immediate. I felt nothing and wouldn't even have known they w ere there. Discharged next day. Because of the heart attack, getting used to the tablets and recovering from that took a while but not the stents. Never felt a thing. JUst had a pretty bad bruise on my wrist. The procedure itself is simple; sedation, a tube in your wrist, wheeled into a room full of monitors then watch or choose not to. Back out into recovery ward with a pressure bandage for about an hour , tea and toast then home. My second time stents inserted at 9am, home by 1pm an hour away.
As already said all cases are different.
I had 2 stents last October but had to have my arteries drilled first as they were so blocked. I had loads of fentanyl and was really unwell, in fact they took me for a second angiogram later that afternoon as I was still in pain. I was kept in overnight and was right as rain the next morning and discharged at 4 pm.
I was discharged on a Saturday so no-one to really speak to about it but I spoke to my GP on the Monday who told me do's and don'ts (I had already Googled some info)
My sister in law had 4 stents fitted and had no problems.
We are all different.
Glad you are well. Thank you
Hi i had three stents fitted three weeks ago today, only went in for the angiogram hadnt even thought about anything else being done came home same day and have had no problems i also have COPD which effects my breathing but i have found that as i no longer get the tightness that was my angina i feel good i rested for a couple of days and now try to do a daily walk or exercises indoors and do everything i did before apart from any heavy lifting which i was advised not to do for a couple of months. please dont worry you will be surprised how much better you feel if you do have to have a stent hope all goes well for you
Hi Spirit I’ve had 3 angiograms and a stent. It’s normal to be nervous . I was also very nervous especially when I had my first angiogram . They didn’t give me sedation. So the other two angiograms I insisted I have sedation . The second angiogram I was relaxed due to the sedation and watched the procedure . The third one , I was unconscious due to the sedation .
I definitely think that sedation helps a lot if one is nervous . If you like you can tell the doctor that you’re nervous . Then he/she knows and can calm you and reassure you .
I also asked the doctor if they were going to insert the tube through the groin or wrist . That prepared me for the procedure and I knew what was going to happen
Good luck ! I’m sure you’ll be fine !
