Statins Heart Attack

I was on astrovastation 80mg and have changed to Rosuvastatin 40mg. Is anyone who has had a heart attack on less dosage than these? GP said I need to be on this dosage as prevention? Overall cholesterol is 2.6.

Yes. I'm on no statins. I took them for 2 weeks following my HA then stopped, that was a little over two years ago. Your doctor will advise you on what they think is best for you, but ultimately it is your own responsibility as to which drugs you expose yourself to.

Hi. This from from the NHS website“You usually have to continue taking statins for life because if you stop taking them, your cholesterol will return to a high level within a few weeks.”

Different statins will require different dosages.

I ignored my GP’s advice to take them and 18 months later I had to have Triple by pass. It is your choice and it seems I made the wrong one!

Hope this helps

It's a matter of finding the statin/dose that's right for you.I'm on 20mg a day of Simvastatin.

My cholesterol has never been high, I take statins to stabalise the plaque in my arteries in order to stop chunks of it breaking off and causing me to have a stroke or another heart attack.

I started on 80 Lipitor, but due to diet and other cholesterol lowering supplements, now on 20mg.My level is approx 3.5.

Your 2.6 is excellent so it would make sense to stay on your current protocol.

Thanks. I understand that I need statins for prevention but I am feeling nauseated on rosuvastatin, been on it 1 month. I was changed from astrovastation to this as liver function level is raised, it has come down a bit, but all GP would offer is anti sickness tablets, I don't want more tablets. She wouldn't consider lowering the dose to see if that would help.

I did that after reading on here that people had their statin dosage reduced when their liver function was raised which then came down on the reduced dose. She just changed it to rosuvastatin!

I was on Atorvastin 80 mg but my liver function went through the roof. I have been told to stop them for the moment and see if liver function reduces. Although I am concerned that I am now having no statins at all. My own GP is very unhelpful. I had H/A in Jan and emergency Angioplasty
