Good morning Bazza2 and welcome to the forum.I'm not medically trained so can only tell you of my own (recent) experience.

I was very reluctant to speak to my Dr about depression because I thought it was temporary and would go by itself, it didn't.

The first Dr I spoke to, not my own, suggested "mindfulness and deep breathing" 😐

It might work for some but not for me, and when I mentioned it to other NHS employees, I got that look as if to say omg!

And told to speak to another Dr, which I did.

Without hesitation, I was prescribed Sertraline, 50mg. It didn't agree with me so I was changed to Fluoxetine, 20 mg.

They have worked, no side effects and taking 20mg gives the Dr room to increase the dosage should she need to. I've noticed I'm feeling a little better but I've been told it's made a big difference.

Speak to your doctor, good luck 👍

Do other people tell you you have depression?

Hello :-)

I feel for you as I suffer with anxiety and depression and since my heart condition I never thought it could get worse but it has so I have a really good idea how you feel

Yes of course you can get help with your depression

Your Doctor can refer you for Counselling and not sure how good your Doctor is but sometimes you have to insist this is what you need and they should then refer you even though the waiting lists depending what area you live in can be longer than others but worth the wait

You can go on medication prescribed by your Doctor if this is something you feel you would like to try

If you put in Google something like

Help with depression and then where you live in the Country if it be London or wherever you will either find support groups or self referral where you can refer yourself for Counselling

There is an organization called Mind I will put you the link on you may get some useful information of there

Here is the link

mind.org.uk/information-sup...

There is a Community on Health Unlocked for Depression I will put you the link again that will take you to it

healthunlocked.com/anxiety-...

I really hope some of this may help you to get the help you need and let us know how you get on and remember you are not alone you have us you can come and talk to as well :-) x

Hello :-)

Thank You :-) x

Dear Bazza2

Hello to you and a warm welcome to the forum and all the support that is available for you to use.

Yes there is help and you have already started the ball rolling with asking that simple question {which I know is not simple in anyway to ask}

My experience semi-mirrors Griff-64 and again being all man {Ha Ha} I was also reluctant to seek help for this doom and gloom cloud that had descended and wrapped its self around me.

I am lucky and I have always seen the positive in most things and when that began to change I knew that something was wrong, not for a moment did I think it was depression and it was only reading about someone else’s feelings that I had that ‘Light Bulb’ moment and could not only put a name to my feelings but also seek some help.

Depression is a complex nasty thing that try’s to take over you and needs professional help to not only understand it but also to have the right treatment to combat it.

An appointment with my dr and I ended up with some “sunshine pills” and they worked, took a little while to kick in, but they really did the trick, so much so that I now am off them {as easy for me as going on them} and to date all is well in that dept.

I hope that this has been of some help for you, some will say to go down the ‘mindfulness ‘ path, I just knew that approach would not work for me and had no shame in taking well studied drugs { I won’t name them as you Dr may seem it fit to put you on something else}

Take care and please remember you are not alone, you are in fact a very brave individual in admitting your depression.

Has anything happened to make you depressed, an operation, health problem or depression etc? Is it something you have suffered with long term or just 'come over' you?

Really the only person/people who can help would be someone who is trained even in a small way, like a GP or MIND or you could phone the Samaritans (free call).

If you need to talk, we are here to listen, but the majority of us are people with some kind of heart problem and have suffered with the depression that brings.

Depression is an awful thing and I really hope you can get some help and support.

The first step is realising you need help and asking for it. I hope the suggestions of others help you progress. It is a horrible condition.

Hi Bazza2 I take sertraline 100mg your Dr should be empathetic. There are also talking therapies such as a counselor or Mind (Charity) They are really worthwhile, do groups and one to one and peer support. They hold courses too. Hope this helps. 😊
