Dear Dancingjackson

Very difficult to say if the breathless is normal for you or not. I would contact your Dr/Heart team and explain your symptoms to them.

I have gone 7/8 months now and still am breathless, but that is me and it maybe for a totally different reason than you.

We are all individuals and the operation will affect us all differently, but your concerns should be addressed by your medical team.

Take care , don’t worry your are not alone and please let us know the outcome.

I have no team to contact, I left hospital with a bag of pills and no advice as to what to do next.8 weeks later I had a 10 minute phone call from a consultant followed 2wks later by a letter saying I am now discharged the only help I have received is from my gp,who as you may know is very hard to contact. I have no idea how to contact anyone else for medical advice as to what to do or expect. Stay safe and well

I'm not sure there is anything that can be defined as "normal" because everyone is different. I had a bypass in Oct 2020 and I can still get a bit breathless with exercise if I don't start off slowly enough. I have a tendency to get out the house and stride off energetically like I used to, but I have learnt now to be a bit gentle for the first 5 minutes. I have been told that the new veins used for the bypass do not open up as quickly as the original cardiac arteries in response to exercise. I don't know whether this is correct, but it seems plausible.

I too had a bypass op in October 2020 b mine was quadruple. I am often breathless and lack energy which I put down to a change in health at age 77. I must admit that I was expecting more of a follow-up of regular checks but all I had was the bag of pills and a 10 minute call after a few weeks but that was due to pandemic restrictions!

Hi. I had my Triple bypass back in August 2000. Really struggled with my breathing - had to stop every 50 yards when walking. Went back to the Drs in October and they arranged for me to go back to the hospital the next day for ostensibly a check on my medication. Was kept in the acute respiratory unit for next 5 days 4 of which I was on Oxygen support.Had significant Oedema in both legs and feet despite being on water tablets. they decided to infuse me directly with Furosemide and I lost a stone and half in the space of 40 hours. Discharged after 5 days and feeling lot better. Now managing to walk round 18 holes of golf. It has been a long haul but should remember that I'm almost 70 now so it shouldnt be a great surprise
