12 weeks post triple bypass

Hi, just to say I had a triple bypass 12 weeks ago.

The first few weeks were really hard and at times I was pretty down a lot of the time

I now feel great and doing just about anything ( within reason ) I've joined a gym and am in a good place

Just really want to say that anyone who has just recently had the same surgery and is feeling low like I did, you WILL improve and feel a lot better given time

Pooly, good to read your upbeat post and good luck with your continuing rehabilitation.

In my case, my triple bypass is now 12 months ago. I had an idea right from the early days that mending was going to be a long job. Mentally I gave myself a year. Having read hundreds of posts on this forum, its noticeable that there are many different journeys, people mending in different ways and with differing timescales.

So many posts on here boil down to the vexed question "Is what's happening to me, normal?" Who can blame people for seeking reassurance after major surgery!? I remember a couple of chaps saying they couldn't bear to touch the left side of their chest as it was far too sore and sensitive. "That's odd", thought I. Mine is as numb as hell and was all of the first five or six months!

So Pooley, once again, congratulations on your progress! For others mending a lot slower -yes, its normal. Just keep asking questions about whatever troubles you.

Alec.

Hi Alec, yea, I'm still numb in parts of my chest and my leg where they cut into, but it's good to feel ok, glad your doing well, take care 😀

Good advice but some people won’t be as healed and upbeat as you at 12 weeks. Days before my bypass I was visited in my US hospital room by a volunteer and past bypass patient. The man, from the Mended Hearts organization, said that before he felt fully back to “normal” a full year had passed. It gets better every day, but myself now at six months, can say that it definitely can take longer than 12 weeks

Absolutely correct, not everyone has the same recovery time, my point was though that people who have went through this will get better eventually, I'm obviously still not 100% but do feel good

So glad you are improving. I remember following my bypass that I felt 'normal' after about 8 weeks. as many have said its different for all. I felt like my world had fallen apart emotionally straight after, but as you improve so do the feelings of helplessness. I am now 15 months post op and living life to the full. Best of luck xx

Really good to hear, sounds like you living life to the full, well done xx

Thanks for writing this post, posts like this really help I had open heart surgery 9 weeks ago today to remove a tumour inside my heart, that was the easy part. The healing both mentally and physically has taken it’s toll. I think like everyone else says it is a individual thing regarding how long it takes to heal I was counting the weeks thinking by eight weeks all would be good.

Now I’ve accepted that it will take as long as it needs and the prickling and pain I feel is normal and won’t last forever! The surgeon did actually say that the younger a person is the more painful the recovery because of the muscle elasticity repairing itself. It is what it is.

Elaine 😉

thanks for your post Pooly123 - I'm 3 weeks post quadruple bypass op and yes am feeling down at the present time, thinking will I ever get through this. I've been reading lots of posts recently saying there is light at the end of the tunnel and I must say I can't wait to feel better than I do at the moment ... so all the positive posts here have given me hope that a new chapter is not far away. Thanks so much for spurring me on !!

Hiya, well three weeks is nothing really, but honestly give it time and you will get there, I was feeling shitty at three weeks but did gradually improve, all the best

I'm just under 6 weeks after a triple bypass and also getting the numbness on the left side. It's also very 'tight' on the chest. After reading a few posts I guess this is 'normal'? AND the stockings! A nightmare. can't wait for them to go :(

Well that's me 6 months in now and feeling good, numbness will be there for a while yet, I'm still numb now, especially my leg where the scar is but it's improving, keep going Micky

Great post.. it is the mental more than the physical aspect of this whole procedure I found the worst. You will have diverse symptoms and feel you are alone - but they will go bit by bit.

Hiya, all that's me 13 months in now and feel good, have had a great holiday abroad after 7 months, I'm still numb in parts where the scar is on my leg but that's nothing, this virus is not helping my wee bit I do at the gym, but hopefully get back soon, hope everybody that's replied to my original post are doing fine
