Hi, my partner is 6 weeks post triple by pass and is recovering well. However he’s experiencing dizzy spells when he gets up from sitting down and almost passed out this evening which was a little scary! We’re putting this down to low blood pressure and will contact Doctor tomorrow. I was wondering if anyone has experienced the same after surgery? Many thanks

Dizzy spells after Triple Bypass
Thank you b2btest for your advice, I’ll make sure he drinks plenty of water and gets up slowly! All the best.
Hi Cibby21, don't know how old your partner is, I'm 65, 64 when had bypass. I experienced dizzy spells too after the op. Went on for a couple of months then just disappeared. In my case, I just took it slowly when dizzy, I didn't let it worry me too much. I'm telling you this way because I cannot advise you or your partner what to do.
Hi. I’m also 6 weeks post CABG this week so we’ll done to you and your partner! It’s a big milestone. I also get the dizziness especially at night but this started 6 months ago after I was put on all the meds including beta blockers. As I understand it’s associated with low BP. I test my BP at home - it’s never been high and is often quite low - and am in discussions with GP and cardiologists to reduce the dose as my recovery progresses. Speak to your doctors and good luck!
Good morning. I think others may have touched on the possible reason for the dizziness when standing up. Your partner is having a bit of postural hypotension (the medical name) and it's caused by slightly low blood pressure in the 10-20 seconds after standing up. The heart then just takes a moment to adjust to the new position and it then returns the blood pressure to normal, and the dizziness goes away. I have had it myself after my bypass in 2020.
I wonder if your partner is on a beta-blocker like bisoprolol or a blood pressure medication like ramapril. I was on 2.5 mg bisoprolol once a day and my cardiologist halved the dose to 1.25mg. I now very rarely have any dizziness when standing up. Problem solved.
Your partner's meds might be lowering blood pressure slighty too much. I recommend a chat with your GP or cardiologist about the medication dose.
Dear Ciddy21
The dreaded light headed feeling on standing, I have suffered with this for years due to a hight thing {6ft 4’} but it became a lot worse after the heart diagnosis.
Without doubt mine is due to the medication making it worse and like all the other advise that has been given to you, I now follow the same on the Nurse/Cardiologist/Dr advice.
Stand slowly and drink more water, it really worked for me and enabled me to continue with the drugs therapy.
Take care
He is getting up to fast. He must rise from sitting slowly allowing the blood to pump to the head. Medication adjustments can help. But he must rise slowly. It will become a habit in the end. As it is for me. But sometimes I just jump up and then have to hang into something quickly.
