Yes I was. I was in UCL and transferred to Barts for my stent. Barts do all of UCL’s cardiac work and they are a ‘centre of excellence’ for cardiology in London. You’re in a good place and the new buildings and facilities are fantastic.

Hi, It seems that a lot of the hospitals in London are now sending patients over to Bart's for procedures and heart ops, The government have been pouring money into the idea of one main hospital which prodominatly deals with heart, therefore the name "Bart's Hearts". Fortunately I still have my UCL cardiologist, who actually works at Bart's as well. It seems there are still clinics but patients are gradually being transferred to Bart's I had my aeortic valve and pacemaker fitted there and ended up staying in ICU for 3 months.

Not at all. Had aeortic valve replacement that did not go to plan, The valve was too big and ruptured my aeorta, then had a smaller one fitted. Was in theatre 7 hours with stents triple bypass and mesh complete kidney failure and heart block, then needed pacemaker, also a tracheostomy, as you can imagine I was not expected to survive. Fortunately I don't remember much about It but suffered PTSD for a long time, after being in intensive care too long. I have had counselling for this.

The nurses on ICU were exceptional, I would have strangers asking me did I remember them looking after me and could not believe I was still in there.

I went into Bart's the end of August 2016 and left end of November, I could not understand how it was summer when I went in and winter when I left ?

Fortunately what happened to me was bad luck/rare but I have never mentioned this on forum as did not want to frighten anyone. I have never recovered from all of this, but my big ambition was to see my first Grandchild which I have, 12 weeks old now. Something to keep me going.

Thanks. I'm sorry you had such a rough time. Was stents an triple bypass planned or as consequence of what went wrong with valve?

Went in for straight forward aeortic valve replace ment, ended up with all the other bits and pieces as a consequence of the valve being too big, basically patched up. Ironically the surgeon said to me how lucky I was that he had done the surgery as another doctor would not have had the knowledge to repair all the damage and at least I had survived !
