Heart bypass after pain
We are all different, so no hard and fast timetable. Mine was AVR. I felt pretty wonderful at about 15 weeks, things having eased considerably over those weeks. But I did follow the exercises etc . If the discomfort is easing then carry on. But if it’s the same as say last month, then you need medical advice/ help. You could contact your GP or you could talk to the nurses at the cardiac wing that did the op. Or you could talk to the nurses at the BHF. I spoke to the ward nurses. Best wishes
I had a quadruple bypass in Jan 2021. It is normal to still have discomfort for 14/16 weeks after the operation. Be careful not to do any heavy lifting. Try shoulder rolls and arm movements. This will help the muscles in the chest area that may be the cause of your pain. If it persists you should contact your GP. Finally, you should sign up for Cardio Rehab and kick on with a fitness regime after that. Good luck with your recovery.El-Tel
Dear Rockwellrob
It’s that individual thing again and we are on a similar path, my chest still has its moments to remind me what it has had done.
I am on no pain killers now but must admit to an ache or two { that may be my age !} but each week is a little less.
I think as long as it’s manageable just go with it, but obviously if you have any doubts contact your Heart team/ Dr.
Good luck with your continuing journey and well done for getting this far.
Take care
We're all different with varying pain thresholds so it's impossible to answer! I'm one year post CABG x4 and still get the odd pain, seems to be mainly musculoskeletal though. Do your rehab exercises, walk every day, don't overdo lifting etc. It'll get better.Good luck with your recovery.
I had exactly the same on Feb.4. The only real chest pain left is a sensitivity, it's like bad sunburn. Sneezing is finally just about possible. Tbh, my leg is worse, random twinges and aching, especially in the ankle.
I had a triple bypass three and a half years ago and found that I got some pain across my chest for the first three years or so, especialy when I did anything that involved pushing my hands / arms together. This has now eased up a lot, even though I am still using my arms quite strenuously on garden projects etc and I do not seem to get any pain when using just one hand across my body (power drilling etc ) . I am not very young (79).
