I would say when your Cardiologist says it's ok! No one here can/should answer such a question. Without knowing your full medical history and current state of recovery it would be wrong to do so.

After the op you'll get a timetable when you can start doing things. They want you back to normal as quickly as possible. Your post op physio will advise you about swimming. Remember you'll have a red scar for a few months.

Did you get a timetable and actually have a post op physio? My OHS was pre Covid and I never even heard of either!

Nobody on this forum can advise you. Speak to your GP or your cardio rehab team.

NHS recommend 12 to 16 weeks after open heart surgery. But always check with your cardio team as everyone is different. You also mention stitches? I did not have any after I left hospital drain wound stitches where removed the day I was allowed home. Take care

Dear Tez666

Well done in getting through your bypass and all that means.

Its great that you feel strong enough to return to swimming, a fantastic exercise that will help later with your recovery,

I say later because although I’m not medically trained I would feel that this is to early to put the strain on your sternum.

Your heart team will answer your question I just hope that your not to disappointed with their answer.

As for your stitches if they were anything like mine they dissolved over a period, with out being gross they sort of went crisp and fell off.

Good luck with it all and take care, walk before run { God I hate that saying }
