Sort of new but not

hello!

I spent some time here way back in 2019, when the day of my heart attack, I posted here asking ‘what this weird feeling is’. Everyone here was on the money, it was indeed cardiac and 4 stents, 3 years later I’m still around.

Much as before, I just do life now, and once all the hospital stuff was over I disappeared from here. And guess what, there’s a new ‘funny feeling’.

In my left calf. Feels like cramp, generally starts with exercise but sometimes I feel it in bed. It feels right in the middle of the muscle, doesn’t stop me dead like a real leg/foot cramp does, but is certainly very noticeable. I’m still under my cardiologist as I had some arrhythmias for a couple of years, so wondering if I go straight to him or ask my GP? I’ve asked Mr Google, and PAD keeps coming up.

Clever BHF-ears, tell me your thoughts, pretty please

Could just be cramp. Especially if you’re exercising, not drinking enough water or not moving enough. Those are what I tend to suffer from. I tend to gave a small glass of tonic water and that does the trick. Sometimes it’s so bad I leap out of bed (not easy at my age with my balance problems lol). I think it’s easy to assume it’s something more serious. Maybe it’s the meds. Statins are pretty notorious for leg pains.

It can't do any harm to get it checked.

Hello Sillyfroggy,

If in doubt get in contact with your GP or Cardiologist for reassurance.

Either can send you for an ultrasound on your leg and the appropriate blood tests.

Good luck!

Probably just cramp, but as you have had previous heart problems, it would be good to get it checked.

Hello Sillyfroggy,

Sounds like it could be claudication, a symptom of PAD. I agree that your cardiologist would be the best person to advise you. Failing that your gp. Mine has reduced amazingly by perseverance (when possible) Cardiologist explained this with the analogy of the motorway is blocked, so the blood finds a way on the A & B roads instead! Mine ranged from being extremely painful, to just a bit ouchy! Hope you get it sorted.
