Hello St03,

I am a 35 year old male. I too had a Quintuple Bypass about 2 years 4 months ago and I too get odd aches and pains around my chest way too often. I guess that it’s very normal. I feels that it’s going to be a part of our living now, given that we have had such a major surgery and have survived to “tell the tale”. The only thing is that you will have to figure out which aches and pains to brush off, and which need medical attention because everyone is going to be different. The medications that we are on, also causes us a lot of stomach issues and those too cause some chest pains.

All I can say is “Just breathe and take one moment, one day at a time”

Cheers

If only I was as young as you 🤣. Only a double for me 2 and a bit years ago. I work out, walk, talk and DIY a lot. I'm fitter now than I have been for years. But I do also have regular pain in and around my chest. I injured my leg significantly many years back (nearly cut it off with an angle grinder), it still hurts sometimes. My father in law had his leg amputated and it still hurt. Because it's around our heart, we think we are in danger. Like ClaydonAR says, I'm sure if you get a heart pain, something in your body will tell you. Best wishes.

I'm three and a half years post triple bypass and still get muscle twinges in my chest on the left side from time to time. Pressing on the left side of my sternum is definitely more painful than on my right. I usually massage my chest muscles when having a shower each morning which helps.

For me the worst aches are in my left wrist where an artery was harvested and right lower leg where a vein was harvested. I get pain due to nerve damage and tingling on the skin when it is touched.

4 years ago for me and I still get it.Think it could be where they ripped out the mammary arteries.x

Dear St03

Hello to you and your question, I think that it is incredible how often that this one is asked and the worry that it causes { including me } so you have had all good answers so far and I have very little to add, except this,

I was in so much of a hurry to get out of the hospital that I cannot remember ever being told or asking about the wound that they had created to do the fantastic operation that they did.

Sure I asked and was told, about its outer healing , keep dry etc etc, but not about its inner knitting together except more on the mechanical side, not lifting anything heavy, rolled up towel for a cough etc.

I found that my nurse was my go to for this sort of question and her answers have been repeated by others to you on here.

We are all different in our healing but some of us follow similar paths, mine is a dull ache that can have an edge to it, its almost telling me, don’t forget what you have gone through to be able to reply to St03 question.

Good luck with it all, take care.

I feel everyone’s pain. I’m 4 months post bypass and the pain a constant bind. No one to reassure you except these forums. I’m desperate to return to my teaching role but find it impossible to imagine getting knocked out bumped by a little person. Nothing seems to help except keeping busy & 🌞

A GP told me (who also had a by-pass) that all the aches and pains will be new and you have to learn to live with them. I still get weird chest pains 3hrs after any polishing action like cleaning a car or window. Took me ages to work that out. Like you, I'd like to be sensation free.
