Hi. Thanks for the good wishes. Does anyone know if regular chest pain is common with angina? I’m newly diagnosed and am just not sure if the medication is supposed to stop the pain completely or if I can expect the pain to continue

Chest pain is a prime sign of angina. Consultant told me that the ideal is to have no angina. She aims for the right balance of drugs so I don’t get any. Perhaps have a discussion with your GP?
We you given a GTN spray to use with angina?
Thanks. Yeah I have the GTN spray which helps but I didn’t know if I should still be getting chest pains or if the meds should stop that. Thanks for your reply
Dear Worried_Angela
Hello to you, its hard to help with your question as there is no time scale on how long you have had angina or how long your have been on the medication and of course what that medication is.
The simple answer is no you should not be in constant pain and that your medication should be working to rid you of that pain. This is a discussion that you need to have with your Dr and maybe have your medication tweaked a bit.
More worrying {sorry} is the fact you state that the GTN spray only helps and doesn’t stop the pain. Please contact your GP/heart team/111 a call about this and get it sorted.
I am not medically trained, but feel that you are suffering when you should not be.
Take care and please let us know.
Do persist! If I get a bad bout of angina I monitor it, my GTN spray use, And what I was doing beforehand (exertion, stress, cold etc). The GP will speak to the Consultant if necessary, then they juggle the meds and/or do some tests. It’s working at present.
Do try, you should keep angina to a minimum…my Cons said ‘it’s a sign your heart is strained’.
I've had Angina for over a Decade. Your blood supply to your heart is reduced by narrowing of your artery. My medication Amlodipine (10mg) opens up the narrowing. I take mine at night and it works well. If you are getting regular Angina pain your blockage (narrowing) must be severe (could be a clot). Go to local A+E and get seen to, GP...Will just refer you, do it now, you only get one life. If really severe call 999. My blockage must be a reasonable size as my Cardiologist decided I didn't need a Stent. Good luck, "Do it now"
