Looking for advice

Hi I had a serious heart attack 7 months ago. Angiogram showed I required 3 stents but my arteries were too narrow. I am now on drug therapy. I have coronary artery disease. Prior to the heart attack I had phoned my GP as noticed sometimes when I was walking I felt like I was walking through treacle and like I had weights on my legs and also felt breathless. I am a walker and often did 17 mile walks with friends at the weekends so knew this was abnormal for me. GP dismissed me and said he had never heard of this before! A few months later I had a massive heart attack and nearly died. Now I am worried as I have had the same feeling a couple of times again recently and today I had it and felt so unwell I thought I was going to pass out. I was having difficulty walking again felt like someone had strapped weights to my legs. Had anyone else ever experienced this. My instinct told me prior to the heart attack something was wrong and I feel the same again.

Hello, I am so sorry to hear of your challenges. Naturally we are not medically qualified, and I would say you know your body better than anyone else. When I had my heart attack, I had 4 x bypass, Afterwards, I asked my Cardio, how would I know if it was happening again? He asked me what I presented with before. For me it was incr dibble weakness in my body and pain across my shoulders and arms. He said it could be similar if it happened again, so I am very aware of what I feel and what to look out for. My point is that if you are experiencing the same symptoms please get checked out. Please don’t be afraid to ask to speak to a member of the Team you were under for your treatment or a BHF nurse, I understand they are very helpful. Naturally we are all different, and I am not sure if my post helps, but please do get checked out. Take care, Judi

Hello :-)

I had 3 heart attacks stents were not an option for me so I had to have a triple Bypass

With everyone of my heart attacks even though the second two were not like my first one I had this feeling things were not right and I went to the hospital and regretfully my instincts were right

I think we know our own bodies better than anyone else and should never ignore it

I wonder if you are still under a Consultant and could phone their Secretary ?

The other options would be to ask your Doctor to be referred back and if they say they do not feel it is necessary then stand your ground and tell them you do

If you do feel ill then of course you have the option of taking yourself to A&E

You could also phone 111

The BHF Nurses are someone else that would maybe help and give you some good advise and lots of members phone them that are members of this Community

You can phone them on 0300 330 3311 and they are there between 9 till 5 Monday to Friday

I hope you get some answers to how you feel and please let us know how you get on :-) x

Please, please, fight for your own health. I had a somewhat similar situation, in that I had 2 stents implanted but I never felt "right" -- I kept telling my dr. that I wasn't feeling as good as he thought I should; he ordered some fairly basic tests but couldn't find anything so I just decided to cope with it (breathlessness, lethargy). 6 months later had a heart attack. In hindsight (of course!) I should have gotten a second opinion or gone to a private cardiologist. No guarantee that it would have prevented the HA but one never knows...

First of all I wish you well. I had a number of tests on my heart but was unsure whether or not to have an angiogram. I had no real symptoms. My wife said I should to make sure. I did and they discovered I needed to have stents. My point is that if you are concerned as you appear to be you should get yourself checked over. Take care and all the best.

Don’t delay messing with GPS just get yourself straight to A@E where everything will be checked and any action taken immediately. This can be a life saver. Good luck

I'm not medically qualified but this sounds like classic angina symptoms, many people on this forum would report similar sensations. Furthermore it's really not that surprising, in fact given your comment that you had arteries too occluded for stents it's more surprising that you didn't have these symptoms before your heart attack.

Were you given a GTN spray by your doctor, and if so did that alleviate the symptoms?

In any case, you need to go back to your GP, explain your symptoms and say you've previously had a heart attack. I wouldn't panic (angina doesn't necessarily mean a heart attack is imminent), but I'm sure the doctor will want to see you and refer you to a cardiologist.

Good luck!

Hi there, I'm not a doctor, but I really do think you need to get to see a cardiologist sooner than later. You almost certainly will not be signed off by the cardiologist who is responsible for your care. Give his/her secretary a ring, and explain the problems and ask for a consultation. These days, it might initially be by phone.

Good luck

Dear Sunrise26

Hello to you, you have perfectly described exactly how my problem, became the problem.

like you it was dismissed. But not anymore I now know what my body is telling me and God does it tell me.

The same is for you and you must act on what its saying, it maybe nothing then what have you lost other than a bit of time.?

If you have doubts about your Dr then talk to your Heart team, 111, A&E.

There is only one of you and you are in charge of that number one. Make it {like us} the best you can.

Thinking of you, you are never alone.

Hello, I know that it has been 11 months since you posted this, but I have two comments. The first is that I hope that all is well. The second is that I hope that you have another GP after that. Heaviness in legs and breathlessness is the ABCs of arterial issues and every GP should know that. One who doesn't is one who doesn't seem worth the time to visit
