Possibility of Chest Pain caused by Medication

Since having two stents in April last year (LAD) I have been taking Isosorbide Mononitrate, Clopidogrel, Doxazosin, Bisoprolol and Atorvastatin. I have been getting chest pain and sometimes discomfort (in waves) radiating into my neck and jaw quite frequently plus slight dizziness. Had Angiogram today and consultant said stents working fine but one of them has pinched a smaller branch artery. However, he said that although the pinched artery could be the cause of minor chest pain it wouldn’t be significant enough in terms of blood flow to cause the waves of discomfort - which feels like something is blocked and then surges through. I am wondering if anyone has experience of chest pain and other symptoms being caused by the medication itself as all of this only started when I had the stents and started the meds? Thanks

Dear Wilko110150

Sorry to hear about the chest pains you are suffering from.

But I think the clue is in your post, that you never had it before the stents were fitted.

It seems that your Cardiologist is taking your problem seriously and you have had more tests to try and find an answer.

Now he has sort of ruled out the stent side of things { which is good news } so maybe it now points to the medication.

This is something that really only your GP/Pharmacist could help you with.

As you have probably learnt from here, some people still suffer chest problem long after the stents have been fitted .

But there will be an answer for you , it just needs a little more investigation.

Good luck with it all and please keep us informed

Thanks so much for your thoughtful reply Blue1958. As you say it is good news that the stents are doing their job. I’m hoping now that the cardiologist suggests what investigations or options need to be considered next. He is contacting me in next couple of days.

That is good news.

I know its silly to say, but have a pad and pen ready with all your questions on it. If you get answers that you don't understand make sure they clear them up for you.

Question Question Question, its your body and you want answers.

Take care
