New to AFib treatment

I have recently been diagnosed with AFib after years of irregular heart beats. In 1999 I had a thyroidectomy due to thyroid cancer( parathyroid also affected) since this time I have taken levothyroxine & 1500mg calcium x3 times per day - varying in

quantity. We moved from Leics to Suffolk 4 yrs ago & since then the levothyroxine has been considerable reduced as I moved to a new Endocrinologist. I have experience an uneven heart beat for many years but stress tests showed no irregularities of the heart. I did take a low dose of propranolol- originally given for migraine control. However, of late , the irregular heart beats have increased and after a spell phlebitis in my thigh - I decided to ask a cardiologist for help( Gp dr said I would have to just put up with the irregular & rapid heart beating)

By default I found that both my cholesterol & sugar levels were high also ! I thought

I had a fairly healthy lifestyle & although 78 yrs continued to walk each day & play golf. ( limited at present due to untreated arthritic knee)

I have now been prescribed bisoprolol 2.5 mg x2 a day & apixaban x2 a day.( come off propranolol) My blood pressure is ok & I feel I have been slowed right down

especially at night.

The episodes of AFib have increased day & night - I am feeling depressed & upset

with all of this & just don’t know how to pull myself out of these feelings.

Thank you for reading - any advice would be helpful.

Dear Etch43

So sorry to hear that your ailments are bring you down so much.

The main problem that I can see is that your not getting the answers to your problems, both from the past and now.

You need a clear diagnosis of your arterial Fibulation which is only really obtainable with tests via your Dr / Cardiologist.

You have to remember that I’m not medically trained but my thyroid functions were all over the place while using heart medication, you tell us that yours is from cancer.

Your Dr should be following up with regular blood tests as an imbalance in thyroid drugs are know to cause depression { along with many others }

I really feel for you now that your exercising has been curtailed with your bad knee.

But I would contact my Drs and explain these feeling to them, it is important to get this dealt with and try to get rid of theses darker thoughts.

We are here to help you as best that we can, it maybe only in support, but then I hope you will realise that you are not alone.

Take care
