Referred to Cardiology by doctors and other consultants because of signs/symptoms, finally told at Cardiology absolutely nothing wrong with my heart so why have I been referred for a Myocardial Perfusion Scan if nothing at all wrong.

Sorry it posted before I had completed. Been rushed to hospital a number of times in last year or so and admitted on times as I'm struggling to breath and chest pains. Paramedics even gave me ECG recording to keep saying something wrong, doctors at A&E state something wrong but when I get admitted told must be asthma but thats being ruled out. I am struggling to breath, cant lie down, can now only walk very short distance before I get light headed and pain get worse. Finally get appointment with Cardiologist, consultation over in minutes, told absolutely nothing wrong with my heart then as I'm about to leave almost like an afterthought he's referred me for that scan. If nothing wrong why do I need the scan.

Sorry, but all anyone here can do is guess! Why not ask the cardiologist or your GP what they are looking for?

Thanks. I've decided to go private so that I'll get some sense out of someone.

Sounds like you’re going through a worrying time with those symptoms :( I feel for you.

If I were you I would feel reassured that the cardiologist believes there to be nothing wrong with your heart. But (especially if the symptoms are still there) I’d be glad to be referred for a myocardial perfusion scan. It’s also known as a stress test - it’s non invasive and it is done to see if your heart muscle is getting enough blood flow and oxygen when it is working hard (under stress). It’s a really good test to have, and will either show something for them to treat, or be reassurance that your heart is working well.

As another poster has said, you can get more specific answers from the medical pros treating you. But in the meantime, I would view it that the cardiologist is just being thorough (despite the quick consultation!) and wants this test as further confirmation that your heart is well.

I really hope your symptoms improve - and you get some answers J x
