I am getting Fitbit ready for 2022!!

In anticipation of a more active 2022 I have purchased a Versa 3 Fitbit, although it takes a degree in technology to even get the thing started! It also acts as a Smart Watch but I am not sure if I have correctly set that part up. The main thing was to get my steps counted and my heart rate monitored.

My sister and law and I have arranged our first session tomorrow morning just a gentle start but at least a start.

I will get around to programming it to the amount of exercise I want to do each week but I was happy with just setting up the basics for now.

I had a good Christmas and ate and drank (in moderation) and amazingly I feel less tired than I was feeling pre Christmas (for some reason) long may it continue!

I'd love to hear what other people have in mind for the New Year as far as exercise is concerned, I know several of you seem to recommend couch to 5k but maybe in the future for me but not now. I have also been told that I will be contacted to start the healthy heart programme locally, I am really looking forward to that.

Good luck everyone, but enjoy what is left of 2021 first!

Hello :-)

That sounds great , look forward to hearing how you get on with it :-)

The technology part would be what I would struggle with but sounds like you have it sorted :-)

Not sure what my aim is yet but I know it is to get back on my feet after the set backs which is not as good as yours but it is a plan :-)

I wish you a Happy New Year :-) x

Fitbit challenges are great in motivating. I have been on it for years and haven’t left it during worst of times - I once hit 50k steps a day 😎

Yup. Same. Got a Fitbit for Christmas and after three days of hair pulling I've got it set up. It really is tricky. Now,to get back in with the exercise. Let it slide over the festive period whilst watching Christmas TV and snacking a bit and boy does it make you feel guilty when you see your steps..or lack of them. Good luck with your exercise and have a lovely New Year.

I also got a Fitbit Versa3 for Christmas. Absolutely thrilled! Getting assistance from my daughter to set it up. Does anybody know how accurate the heart rate monitor is on it? Thanks all!

My doctor told me to take it off during resting as my heart rate fell dramatically to 35 BPM, it was concerning but maybe it was the right thing to do, There’s no harm of trying it but I wouldn’t count on it’s readings.

Dear Heather1957

Good luck with the Fitbit I hope it helps you in your quest for better health. I think you already know the secret to that, just mild movement the biggest part is the movement.

It is so easy { for all that we have gone through } for our bodies to seem to demand rest.

Breaking that rest period is hard for many, and it shocked me how easy it was for me to sit for hours , which was something I never had done before my diagnosis/ operation.

So Fitbit/ sister in law or anything that helps that recovery is vital, I think many fail, it took me many goes to get off my bottom, once it started it became easier { god how many times have we heard that } .

Good luck to you, you will get there

Hi Heather, good luck with your fitness goals next year! I got a Fitbit Charge 4 after my GP recommended getting a tracker after my heart bypass, it's a wonderful device and has really helped me.

One thing you may be interested in is Strava. It's a fitness app that can sync with your fitbit. It does a lot of challenges which I find motivate me to exercise. I aim to get back into jogging, yoga and punch bag training in the new year having let all slip due to a recent bad bout of sciatica. I didn't use the couch to 5K, I just started jogging a little and built it up, but it's meant to be very good.

Hi Heather,It would seem to me that you have mastered the first stage of your rehab, in getting and setting up your Fitbit. The finger exercises and getting your head round setting up the technological marvel is reason enough to get out there and test that it works 😁. I hope you and your sister in law have a great time on your forays.

I was very aware that becoming a couch potato would be the easy option after my HA, so made the decision to get another dog, hence my pseudonym. Having Charlie means that I have to get out and exercise weather I like the idea or not.

I had been a football referee for a number of years so was 'as fit as a butcher's dog', but due to the meds I was proscribed, I dropped off a cliff, so to speak in my energy levels.

I do have a Polar M430 smart watch, and although it is quite biased towards those that are more a athletically minded, I have found it very useful for monitoring daily activity, active heart monitoring and also sleep patterns.

I had my HA three years ago now and over that period I have gradually understood my meds and worked with pharmacist to achieve a comfortable balance. And with the use of my smartwatch, have been able to set my self goals in gradual increments. I have the benefit of a good long beach to walk which also helps as markers for your achievements.

Enjoy your walks but take it steady and pace yourself. You will also find that you notice things about your surroundings that you have missed before, and also you will feel increasingly better within yourself.

Best wishes to you for the New Year.

Thanks all.

I am feeling good at the moment no aches or pains and the meds seem to be doing their job.

My friend is coming to stay for the next few days so we can see the New Year in, little does she know I already have a few walks lined up.

My heart rate seems to be a bit on the high side, I am hoping it will start to come down after a few weeks of exercise but I can talk to the cardiac nurse when I start the healthy heart programme, the physio did mention this when I did the bleep test.

Health wise I have no excuse now.

I have to admit I have been tempted to get another dog but if the World opens up again I have a few long haul trips I want to do and don't think it would be fair on the dog.

Happy 2022 everyone!!

I have a Fitbit which is attached to my phone which gives on readings on my A.F and can do exercise as well as sleep ( to detect sleep apnea) I find it very accurate and if it is necessary I can send it to my G.P with readings, but always may sure it is compatible with your phone , mine is a Samsung phone and Samsung watch Fitbit, good luck with setting it up x

Thank you, I have only set it up on the basics as I had a visitor over the NY. I now need to look into how it all works, thankfully Google and YouTube will be my friend!!
