Cardiac mri

Just after any advice please. I have mentioned before that my partner has heart failure due to lvsd. Doctors initially led us to believe it was due to coronary artery disease. After having an angiogram it was found that blood flow was fine. So now he has an appointment for an mri scan and I was just just wondering what they maybe looking for with this. The cardiologist did mention that the heart failure could have been caused by a virus. I felt relieved after the angiogram but now starting to feel anxious again. Many thanks ❤️

Hello

You can't take this as gospel but I believe that an MRI can check/measure the Perfusion in your Heart i.e. the Blood flow through the very small branches coming off the major arteries. It can also give an indication if any damage which may have effected the heart can be reversed through intervention.

I go for one on the 12th January or before should there be a cancelation!!!

Best Wishes and I hope it all goes well for you.

Dear Weeps24

I wish I could take away the fear that you both are going through at this moment, but I can’t.

What I can do is tell you that your consultant will have a better understanding of the heart in question after the MRI scan.

Mine likened it to having a window into the soul.

Good luck with it all and please if anyone can help you both with anything then just ask away.

Not all questions have answers but they all need to be listened to.

Take care

The cardiac MRI scan is the gold standard for LVEF and LVESD it will give the consultant and the patient the full picture of what they are looking for. It may bring with it good news for example I had an echo showing EF of 41-45% and a severely dilated LV however the more accurate MRI showed EF of 55% which is normal and only mild to moderate dilation of the LV. I hope you have a similar experience.

Hi, I was the same told I have lvsd after an echo EF 30% had an angiogram (all clear). MRI scan, EF had gone upto 45% no known cause of mine. I'm still on medication. The cardiologist did mention reducing the medication. I've had another echo and it's improved again. My blood pressure has been a little low recently maybe the meds. I take things easy, only drink red wine if want a drink and stay away from processed foods all of this seems to have helped me. I have returned back to the gym and still work a Nightshift. Hope this helps. Take care ❤️

Thank you for your reply 👍. So glad you are doing well. We are still waiting for mri results which was down around 11 days ago. After the angiogram the cardiologist said the same thing as you have been told "that it could have been a virus and we might never know the cause". I hope he has the same outcome as you and does as well. All the fear and worry is so hard to get through for me, my partner is the opposite and can't see the point in worrying!!! ♥️

Thank you 😊. It was such hard news at the time to take in,. I'm a complete worrier. I worry about me and everyone else around me so I totally get how you are feeling . I had alot of help, rehab and councilling. It's a year since full diagnosis and results. I've had another echo recently and again my heart function has improved. What has helped is I'm able to do some things I used to do such as go to the gym and I have the odd glass of red wine. Medication, support, and some life style changes have helped me along the way. I'm sure with support you will both get through this. Never had I ever heard a virus could cause heart issues. I didn't even have any scarring. I'm alot more health conscious now though!.

I'm always here to chat this is a really great forum which offers lots of support. ❤️X

That's great to hear you are getting back to normality 👌,it gives everyone hope. I am a terrible worrier and have ended up with tablets for anxiety and referred for counselling and I am not even the one with heart failure 😅. My partner was referred for an echo last April by the respitory clinic, had a letter in May said it showed impairment in heart and referred to cardiology!! Didn't see cardiologist until October, in the mean time saw someone private just to get results from the echo!! So it's been going on for a while now 😔. How did you receive your mri results and how long did they take if you don't mind me asking? Thanks for taking time to reply ♥️
