I had unstable angina 15 years ago, aged 47. My coronary arteries were comprehensively blocked (80-90 %). By the narrowest of margins I missed having a heart attack. However I did have a quadruple coronary artery bypass graft almost immediately. I have been angina free and relatively problem free for 15 years. Clearly something to be discussed with your cardiologist. (Unstable angina is caused by blocked vessels so that angina sets on without exercise.) Bypasses are indicated when blockages are too severe or too difficult to access for PCI (stents) to work. Hope that helps. Good luck :-)

Hi, I had a heart attack last December followed by a CABGx2 in January this year. No prior symptoms except being a bit breathless walking up steep hills. Since the bypass I've recovered well, but about 6 weeks ago I got symptoms that felt like my heart attack, only less severe. I was diagnosed with unstable angina and bradycardia, and given a GTN spray. I've had one episode since. A CT scan showed my grafts are ok, and I'm awaiting a consultation with Barts at the end of the month. I feel ok in myself, but I do think I'm getting more breathless more often. My other concern is that the unstable angina has come on since the bypass (I thought a bypass would cure this if you had it...) and also how to tell the difference between an unstable angina event and a heart attack... very confusing. I was told to dial back on exercise until they had investigated, which I'm doing but I want to get on with building up my fitness 🙄

Hi Cumberlandman,

Yep, I suffered with stable angina for years (they were treating me for asthma)

I had a heart attack December 2016. I was 63 years of age.

Five stents March 2017.

Eight months later angina symptoms again.

A date was set for late March 2019 for a bypass op.

Before that date my angina turned to unstable.

I was taken into hospital for my own safety and where they could keep an eye on me.

I was moved to another hospital for the bypass before the planned date, they were afraid I wouldn’t make it.

Early March I had a quintuple bypass (CABG x5).

Monday morning I had the op. Saturday evening I was home watching the Voice on TV and tucking into a Steak and a lovely glass of red.

Four weeks later I was driving me car.

Twelve weeks later I was riding my Triumph Bonneville 900cc motorbike and loving every minute of it.

Since then I have done some major refurbishment on our bungalow.

I sing in a male voice choir, play and sing in a guitar group and I run a ukulele class.

Yes it’s worrying but there is better times to come. Your in the system so your one of the very, very lucky ones.

The people I worry about are the ones that’s walking about eating fatty beef burgers and greasy chips. They are walking heart attack machines and some won’t be as lucky as you and me.

I’m not a healthcare professional but if you can think that this is just temporary and how lucky you are that your in the system and can be fixed.

Personally I wear my scar on my chest like a French swordsman would wear a scar on his face. With pride that I’ve faced danger and adversity and I have triumphed.

Ok, ok, my wife has just said to stop trying to make myself sound like a Musketeer and get on with making breakfast 😳

😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂

Fish4info, Brixos & 007 hey thanks for your replies - I have been told to temp lay off the exercises it’s so frustrating.

I’m breathless whereas I was doing ok or so I thought and the unstable angina attack I have been getting was like a heart attack but not so crushing

I wish all of you continued good health and thanks for your contributions
