Unstable Angina

Had a HA last October small artery to left of heart towards back of heart has narrowed. No stent fitted meds and cardio rehab and doctor said I’d be fine. I’ve got constant pain in my back which sometimes eases or goes away with the spray . I can’t walk up the slightest incline or it gets worse and pain radiates to my chest. GP has referred me back to cardiologist as she thinks I have unstable Angina and i’m now on meds for this .

Anyone got any experience of Unstable Angina ? I feel so down now as I had hoped to be better by now .😢

My stable angina changed to unstable over the period of about a week to 10 days last October. A few days later I had an angiogram and two stents inserted into the LAD. All pain and breathlessness went.

Awe I’m so glad you feel better now. My GP said they may now put in a stent but it will be cardiologist who will decide . I feel even more vulnerable now .

I have unstable angina. Only discovered 2 weeks ago after a week in Acute Coronary unit. Angioplasty and 2 stents fitted and a raft of daily meds but all AOK now (apart from mid-upper back pain which I am assuming is just bruising/a week in a hospital bed!)

Glad to hear your feeling a bit better hopefully once I see cardiologist we can get to the bottom of this and I too will be pain free.

I went to A and E when I started getting chest pain at rest, and was admitted straight away. Did not have to wait for cardiology appt. might be an idea for you, if you don’t feel an6 better. OR a make a nuisance of yourself by phoning cardiology secretary. He who shouts loudest...

I’ve had the pain for so long now but thank you

I get it all the time, even after 5 stents. See your consultant, keep your gtn spray with you at all times, and don't push yourself too hard.

My experience has been similar to yours except that I’d clearly had unstable angina for some years which was misdiagnosed and I had a heart attack affecting the same artery and New Cross Wolverhampton did an angioplasty and stent within two hours.Miraculously the gastric reflux I’d been treated for for the last seven years has gone.

A rucksack full of drugs and a much improved quality of life.

My angiogram was done and the dr said no stent needed I’m wondering now if this would have been better done but have to go with the experts. Hopefully will get it sorted soon. Thanks for your input .

In the months before my first HA i had regular angina type pains but apart from an ultrasound plus statins and aspirin there was little investigation done. After the HA I was put on 6 new meds but no stent or surgery, I've never had so much chest pain as during those months. I eventually ended up just on the statin and aspirin again and had no more pain but I did rack up another 5 HA's in just 8 months.

Oh dear , that’s what I’m worried about . Hope your keeping better now .

A stent sorted mine. Took a while (3 months) to get the meds right but been pain free for over 2 years. Use the GTN. If you’re experiencing near pain go to A & E. when properly addressed you will be pain free and very well.

Yes Gaert1, I was diagnosed with unstable angina in February, was taken into hospital , as I was waking up with the pain in my throat which then radiated down to my chest and stomach, really felt like indigestion. Ended up having an angiogram angioplasty and a stent in my right coronary artery, which was very narrow almost blocked, I don't get pain now, but even the slightest incline sends me out of breath. I do have genetic copd as well tho, and all this has left me more breathless than before. My advice is to get re- referred back to cardiologist ask for a heart scan too. Good luck.Trish

Hi Garto1,Speaking from my own experience...

Stable angina is where you get symptoms like chest pain, breathlessness, burning in the wind pipe, pinching of the throat and many other symptoms that happen when under exertion.

Unstable angina is where you get these symptoms when at rest.

I had stable angina unknowingly for ten years. They said my symptoms were down to a variety of things until I had a heart attack after some exertion.

I had five stents fitted.

Eight months later I had angina again.

Almost two years after stents I started getting unstable angina.

GP sent me to A&E after getting chest pain sitting watching TV.

I didn’t get back out of hospital until I had a quintuple bypass.

This is speaking from my own experience, unstable angina is highly dangerous and great care must be used not to exert yourself.

Best of luck 👍

Hi

I was being treated for angina that became unstable after only a few days. I was taken to hospital with crushing chest pain.

I had a stent put into the lad artery 3 weeks ago, I had a 99% blockage with few symptoms (thought it must be my imagination as all tests up until angiogram were normal).

After 5 days in hospital I hoped that would be me sorted. I’m disappointed that I am still getting a lot of the same mild/mid pain in my back/chest. I take my spray and it goes away. My gp is phoning me today. I know it’s early days for me so I’m hoping it’ll settle down but the gp was suggesting gtn being taken daily as a preventative. Will see what he says.

I hope you get the right treatment for you and you can get your life back, it’s rotten not being able to easily get out and about in the spring sunshine.

Hi Garto1, I hope it gets sorted soon, I'm admitted in A n E as I'm writing this with unstable Angina well that's what I'm thinking it's Angina, they have done one set of blood tests and waiting on doing. Another set, iv got two stents from HA in 2019, and still one blocked artery which they said will be manged with meds, today after 10 months I'm in again so let's see what they going to do.

Sorry to hear that your back in hospital , that’s my worst fear . I hope you get something done soon.

Waiting on angiogram but I hate being put through it for the 3rd time, I don't understand why they don't fix the problem one time instead of dragging on when they were fully aware of my 3 blocked atttery.

Sorry to hear your waiting for another angiogram it’s nerve racking having one never mind three. I was reassured at angiogram that not having the stent was the best outcome for me but now like you I wonder if they should have done it there and then abs I haven’t had a pain free day since HA in October. Unable to return to work or walk outdoors for pleasure as the slightest incline makes the back pain worse and the. It travels to my chest. Everyday I’m in fear of having another HA . I hope you don’t have to wait to long and wish you well .

Well I had my angiogram today and one of the branches on by my left led was fully blocked, as it was cross connection they inserted drug coated balloon, which is something new. Has anyone else had drug coated balloon before?

I suffer with unstable angina I have same symptoms any incline at all stairs literally I went to angina refractory clinic in Liverpool and they just changed everything they are amazing tought me how to breath instead of using my gtn it made a world of difference as any stress just makes angina 10 times worse I am 10yrs on from 5 heart attacks and a quadruple bypass stay positive xx

It can be frustrating, nothing shows up on any of my tests, except angiogram or blood tests to check if I've had a heart attack. But you need to trust your cardiologist and relax, don't borrow worry, just do all you can, diet, exercise as you can, even here, you need to relax, or every time you exercise you feel different and worry. Hope you learn to cope with your new normal. Take care.

It's been 5 days since my angiogram I had drug coated balloon inserted, but this time round after this angiogram iv started getting palpitation all through the day daily, I'm bit worried why this has happened this time round and is this serious. 😔
