Hiya my son whose 30 with severe aortic stenosis went to hospital with pains in chest , shoulder and back high blood pressure . They kept him in all night then said his ecg had gone from 23 to 22 ( what does that mean ) and sent him home . Does anyone know if this means he now needs to have his heart valve operation it's been severe over 2 years and only 2nd time he's felt ill with it . I'm worried that if he ,s not seen might he have a heart attack

My husband is 79 so his situation is somewhat different from your son's. However, I thought I would reply as he is currently recovering from his heart valve replacement, having been diagnosed with severe aortic stenosis a year ago. It was discovered when he had an MRI for something else and it showed he had fluid in his lungs. Clearly, at 79, he didn't have time on his side and we were relieved when he had his op. This was done by the TAVI procedure. I don't know if this has been offered to your son or if it would be appropriate for him, but it's been great for my husband.

Before his op, my husband's symptoms were breathlessness and retaining fluid.

I would suggest that you or your son makes contact with his cardiology team to update them and rattle their cage a bit. At very least, someone could let you know what the numbers mean and, perhaps, give you a bit more information regarding waiting time etc.

Don't be afraid to tell them you're worried.

If my husband's op hadn't come up when it did, I was muttering about 'going private' but goodness knows what that would have cost. Even so, I was not prepared for it to go on much longer.

I don't know where you live or what the waiting times are near you. Obviously, COVID has slowed things down and I'm sure that people are prioritised in order of medical need, but it doesn't hurt to remind them that you're there.

I'm afraid that waiting patiently doesn't always help, as they may not know that things have worsened (I don't always trust that the info gets seen be the right people, even if it is passed on from A&E).

I hope that your son soon gets his op and that it is a great success. He's waited long enough.

xx Moy
