I was admitted into hospital about 4 weeks ago with heart rate of 30 bpm that then shot up to 160 bpm. Had 3 ecg done all came back very different. Was discharged from hospital ather a few day's and told my heart nurse would speak to me. Well yesterday I spoke to my heart nurse who sat me down and said I have some bad news .that's when he told me that my ecg where not looking good and my lack of energy is due to my damaged heart muscle and that I am now in stage 4 hf. I was gob smacked told me that over the next couple of weeks that I will be called into hospital for regular checks. If I had any pain to call 999 . I did not no what to say. I came home and told the wife . Now we have to tell the kids. I feel like that I have not been told what the next stage or plan is. Any advice would be appreciated

Hi Les, sorry to hear your news but can I just say please don’t panic. Process what has been said to you and read the British heart foundation booklets relating to hf. It is the initial shock of hearing that you are in hf that is so upsetting and frightening. Hf can be treated with tablets and can fluctuate. I have been in some some stage of hf for years but it is (controlled) with a range of medication. I am in permanent AF, have 2 mechanical valves and go into different stages of hf but always with the help of cardiology nurse and staff get it back under control. I do not know how old you are but I was 29 when it first started and I am 63 next week so do not think negatively. Be thankful that it has been diagnosed and follow the treatment regime. It does get easier once the shock of diagnosis is processed and you learn more about it. Hope this helps and good luck for the future xx

I don’t think Les is panicking about HF, but being in stage four rather than three.

You hit the nail on the head im not panicking about stage 4 hf I now now with my symptoms that it was going to come. I just hope that they give me more information on what is going to happen. I have energy one minute and then it's like all the energy gets drained. Makes walking hard doing anything takes a lot.

I try to have a good out look on my hf condition. I'm not going to give up the fight. Some days are harder than others. I'm not ready to go anywhere... no matter what happens always look on the bright side. I may get knocked down but I will always pick my self up.
