Who referred you to the endocrinologist? Was something amiss with your thyroid ?Endocrinologists deal with many things but it is puzzling you do not know who has referred you and why.

Thanks for replying so fast, i think it was my doctor but so long ago now I don’t remember why, I am in a quite distressed state of anxiety most of the time and get confused, this by the way is the first time I have actually mentioned this to anyone.

Endocrinology manage diabetes and anything related to that side of things.

Hi lavendermay from my days in general practice I hasten to add admin -endocrinology was usually a diabetic issue not the only issue I might add is your diabetes under control? either way it’s not a bad thing as I’m sure they will sort things out for you take care xx

Hello and welcome to the forum!

An endocrinologist deals with the endocrine system. Endocrinologists diagnose and treat conditions like diabetes, thyroid diseases, infertility, growth issues, metabolic disorders, osteoporosis, some cancers, and disorders in the hormone-producing adrenal glands and pituitary glands.

Most commonly it is to do with diabetes. You say you are borderline Type II. Do you know your latest HbA1c (it measures your average blood glucose over the past few months) as this defines if you are non-diabetic, pre-diabetic or diabetic. An above average number of people with Type II also have thyroid problems.

Do update us after the appointment.

Thanks for replying, I am diabetic, but was told by the diabetic nurse it was borderline, so no need for any other check ups until may.so still a little worried, my doctor was trying to find a statin that would suit me , I don’t know if it has anything to do with that, thanks again

Try not to be anxious - it's wonderful that you are getting to talk to a specialist. Consider it an opportunity to find out more about yourself and to ask questions about how to make things better. I have to go to an endocrinologist because of a thyroid nodule which was discovered by my cardiologist. I was quite surprised when I was diagnosed with osteoporosis that is also managed by the endocrinologist. Who knew?

Thanks so much for replying, I can’t believe how kind everyone is,I am the worlds worst patient, if I see a white coat I run the other way as fast as I can, I know I’m not easy to treat, but I have a wonderful doctor who has been treating me for an anxiety disorder so is very patient, but she’s away at the moment, so thanks again for being so kind
