Hi all,

Am in that difficult space where I'm waiting for a date for surgery-. I know it's pointless to worry but I cant help myself. I haven't had a decent night's sleep for weeks as I wake up and immediately start feeling anxious. I got Headspace on a permanent loop but it's not doing the trick. I will if course check with my GP but wondered if anyone has tried sleeping tablets? Nit sure they're ok with AS...

Hi Bookworm. When I recognise that I am feeling anxious, I usually put some music on, through headphones, before I go to bed. Doesn't even have to be soothing music, just something I enjoy at the time.Maybe worth a try?

I use a tinnitus relaxer. It is white noise plus a sound of your choice. I choose waves on a beach. Costs about £35 .Sleep is so important to your well being.

I love the idea of The Beatles suggesting music.

Best wishes

Colin

Hi bookworm - I’m in the same place , waiting …..And I too wake up with the 2am blue meanies thoughts of all kinds of horrors ! I play radio 4E it’s all plays old comedies total rubbish really but it mumbles away and almost bores me back to sleep - it’s worth a try . I also use a lot of hypnosis tapes / apps all free ones they do help me relax when “the fear “ strikes . Hang in there x CH

hi, I have also had trouble sleeping, it's been 5 weeks since my HA and night time is just terrible with lots of negative thoughts going through my head, I was only managing a couple of hours sleep a night! my doctor has given me sleeping tablets as a short term solution to see if they can help get me in a regular sleeping pattern, I took my first one last night and they seem to work, only woke up once last night but drfted back off to sleep. I don't want to rely on these tablets but I'm hoping by taking them short term, they will help my sleeping pattern. I'm due to start cardio rehab soon and hope this gives me something else to focus on and change my negative thoughts into positive ones, good luck I know how much an emotional toll lack of sleep can have on you, take care xxx

Hi Bookworm60I can't offer any advice but can totally empathise with you. I sleep for a few minutes and then wake up to see every hour of the night. I have an Amazon Echo so do guided meditation sessions as well as playing sleep sounds... Rain on a tent is my favourite. I can't stop the anxiety though and being told by CT dept when I rang yesterday to chase my appt not to expect one any time soon just made it worse. Had another full blown panic attack. I'll be asking for more help from my GP too

Stay positive, we will get there

Hi Joanne sorry to hear you are suffering too. Though it's a comfort to know I'm not the only one ! I asked my Dr for some sleeping tablets in the end. I've had them from time to time in the past when I've suffered from insomnia. I just take one every third day for a week or so and sometimes it can break a bad run of nights. Anyway I has eight hours blissful sleep on Tuesday and on Thursday which has at least helped a bit. I know it's not smart to rely on them so I'm hanging in there with Headspace etc but it means I can have a bit of relief from time to time. Hope you find a way to do likewise x
