Hey everyone a little update managed to come off the bisoprolol(with the okay from my doctor) 3 weeks ago now weaning slowly over 2 weeks feel so much better for it finally getting some sleep 💤 and feeling much more energetic and happy 😊. Almost no blips at all with the racing heart palpitations until last night id been out for a meal and had a few drinks and come bed time my resting heartrate was 100-120 this went on for hours I stayed calm and eventually fell asleep and I'm fine this morning question is could the alcohol of caused this little blip alone ? Xx

That’s pretty high for a resting heart beat . How did you feel when it was battering off the walls ?

Should really say my normal resting heart rate is normally around 80 my 48 ecg said my average heart rate was 87 !! I actually felt okay to he fair bit sick and uncomfortable but not dizzy or in pain!! Xx

Nope mine was like a blip only lasted a few minutes but those few minutes felt like hours. I was perfectly fine afterwards, had an ice cream to celebrate 😂😂

Hi Hannah I’ve had SVT in the past put on sotolol which has worked for me still get palpitations off and on but I don’t drink as it’s a sure way of making my HR go up I’mUsed to resting HR of high fifties and sixties so when it budges up I notice it straight away I hasten to add ive been on the medication smallest dose for 38 years so a long time anything tbh that’s in anyway a stimulant is a no no for me I don’t eat ready made products and definitely don’t go near MSG additive not everybody of course is the same people react differently but my advice is if you do have a drink make sure you drink plenty of water as alcohol is a diuretic which is another trigger I would bite the bullet and go for your procedure worrying about it will add to the problem

At least when you’ve had it done one less thing to worry about you can move forward best wishes let us all know how you go on take care 😊x

Yes, unfortunately alcohol does this to me too so unfortunately have to try not to have it very often. Used to love a chilled Chardonnay…or 3 🤣….but the high heart rate next day lasting for several hours has put me off.

You don't say what dosage you were on but maybe it would be better to just go on to a lower dosage of bisoprolol than to cut it out altogether

I was only on 1.25 haven't been diagnosed with anything hospital happy with my 48 hour ecg and heart scan few palpitations few episodes of a racing heart but they said my heartbeat was still regular during this so happy for me to take them as and when needed got an appointment with a cardiologist coming up soon too (waited so long 😩) even the smallest dose of bisoprolol made my blood pressure drop so low ! Hated it ! Going to see what the cardiologist say xx

Thats what I’m on. Makes me so sluggish and slows my metabolism so much I’ve put on a 10kg. I’d like to come off (but stay on the amlodipine - hereditary hbp) as I think my condition was triggered by anxiety that came with the menopause and I’m through that now and feeling fine. But whats stopping me is that its so difficult to get access to GP to supervise withdrawal.

Deĺighted you are off Bisoprolol. See a group called Bisoprolol.buddies! I put on 20kg on it. Im just out of hospital and they were desperate to put me back on it but on cardiologists advice, I wont touch it again. All the best

Well done Hannah for coming off the bisoprolol! (How long did it take?).Definitely alcohol can cause heart rate to go up - I would avoid any for a while. Try and keep stress free, no caffeine, plenty of rest and small meals! Well done - wish I could get rid of my tabs!!

Take it easy

Heather 😁

I had exactly the same problem. Came off the bisoprolol and had about 3 beers over the course of the evening for my wife's birthday celebrations. Went to bed and had palpitations. Heart rate over 100. Guess the alcohol didn't help. Even though it wasn't much. Either that or iam gunner have to go back on the bisoprolol again to slow it down

Yeh same id only had a few glasses of baileys! Thanks for the reply xxx

Just wondering if you suffer from any heartburn indigestion problems? Id hd terrible heartburn that night after the baileys im always convinced they're linked somehow xx

I'm on 2.5mg of bisop. I still occasionally get the 100 bpm resting heart rate after a big meal. Although sometimes completely randomly too. Luckily I can still have a few pints of Guinness with little to no effect, so long as it's not followed by a Chinese take away. MSG in wet Chinese meals sends my heart nuts, so stick with dry options.
