Hi there, I’m wondering if anyone can tell me how long it takes for Slozem (diltiazem) to work for high blood pressure? Been taking 120mg daily for a week now and told to monitor my blood pressure throughout the day. Nothing happening yet. Bp is still high although not as high as it was before starting them. I don’t know how soon i can expect my bp to get back to normal range. Any advice would be truly welcome 🙏

Slozem advice needed
Hello and welcome to the forum!
I was prescribed Diltiazem (a CCI - Calcium Channel Inhibitor) for angina and it worked quite quickly. However the NHS website says it can take up to two weeks to work fully. If it is still high next week give your GP a call. As you have labile hypertension they will be using a softly softly approach rather than an aggressive one. Please keep us updated.
Hi Michael, Thank you for your reply and your welcoming of me to the forum. I have to say the diltiazem has worked a treat for the angina. Have the odd sporadic pain which I use a gtn tablet for now but only a fraction of what it was like. I did wonder if I should give it a while longer but wasn’t sure as I was given the tablets with no other instructions apart from to monitor bp regularly through the day. Just want to get on top it as it makes me feel pretty awful when the bp is high
Hi Michael, been in touch with my doctor this morning and asked if my bp should be lowering by now. He said yes, the tablets will have kicked in by now yet I’m still getting high readings and feeling pretty awful with it I have to say. Have felt rough since Sunday. He says he wants me to go back to see him on Friday so hopefully should know more by then.
