I am pleased to say I am taking control of my medication. I'm not going to be frightened to express my views to my GP (even if I have to use e consult).
My BP is down to normal levels but is controlled by 10 mg of Ramipril and 5 mg of Amlodipine. However since taking Amlodipine (at night) I wake every morning with palpitations and a squeezing sensation like I'm heading for a heart attack. Really freaking me out! I've put up with this for 4 weeks and have taken the step today to ask my GP to consider changing the Amlodipine as I'm sure this is the cause ( my gut feeling). Has anyone else had side effects from Amlodipine?
Yes. Amlodipine did not like me at all. I was having the effects of panic attacks and it landed me in hospital. Felt like my chest was squeezing me.Can I also suggest that Ramipril at 10mg is a very high dose.
Part of the problem is that you need the drug to get properly in to your system, which probably takes weeks.
Relaxation is the one alternative that does not have side effects.
At the moment I am on 10 mg Ramipril and I want to cut it to 2.5. But can I get through to my GP ? Not this week.

Hi. I am also concerned about this at the moment! I’m also on 10mg Ramipril (since STEMI and stents end October last year) and amlodopine 5mg added end of March along with all the other usual meds. I’ve just this week developed swollen left ankle and pains in calves. My energy levels have diminished again and shortness of breath after basic exercise. Im sure it’s linked to the amlodopine. I’ve also continued to put weight on since March despite doing more exercise than pre HA. I’ve tried to speak to GP - have to wait until next Thursday. Concerned as due to finally fly abroad two weeks tomorrow. Any advicr
I am also having problems with Amlodipine. I suffer from diabetes 2 and have pins and needles in the feet. I was given Gabapentin tablets which eased the sensation a bit. Then I was given Amlodipine 5mg for blood pressure and the whole feet started hurting again. My friend takes Ramipril 1.25 for blood pressure. I am surprised you have been given both Amplodipine and Ramiril tablets together at the same time and also at a high dosage.
