Question re operation scar (4 years old)

More of a question for those who have had their heart operations some time ago. I had my bypass in 2017, I had a few initial problems but would say for the last 2 1/2 years apart from some numbness everything was good.

For the last 2 - 3 weeks I have had an incredible itch and heat around the scar which I try so hard not to scratch although at some time I obviously failed as I have a couple of sores.

I have not taken anything for it yet but wanted to try and and see if this new issue was scar related or just a coincidence. With all going on I don't want to bother the GP unnecessarily so wondered if anyone here had anything similar.

As always TIA.

Hi Heather, lovely to be in touch again but not so good to here about problems with your scar, has yours healed quite well or is it keloid like mine? As you know I too had my surgery 4 years ago, my scar became raised and ugly within a year and is sore and itchy in equal amounts, it also hurts more after I’ve been lying on my side. I have tried numerous oils and creams to calm it down nothing works completely but I find vitamin e oil works as good as anything to stop it from drying out and calm it a little. There might be others on this forum who have had similar problems to you further down the line after surgery who might be able to help.Take care,

Ethel xxx💕

Lovely to hear from you too.I have been lucky to have been scar issue free for a good few years which is why this current problem is unusual.

Today has been a good day but wonder how long it'll last. I don't put anything on it at the moment this is something I need to rethink.

I hope everything is okay with you.

Hi Heather,I’m not too bad thank you, a few ongoing issues but I plod on. I was wondering if your scar has been exposed to the sun lately as that can irritate. I have adapted all my v neck dresses with an insert to cover mine, even then I am careful to keep it well covered and use Neutrogena factor 100 as well, Just a thought. Funnily enough it is just the top 3 inch section of my scar that is like a raised worm which is where the skin has been exposed to the sun over the years, the rest is a fine almost invisible line.

Hope you find something to ease your problem.

Stay well xx

My scar itches quite a lot (almost 3 years after AVR) and sometimes can be very tender to touch - I usually put some moisturiser on it and it settled down for another spell

That sounds the same as I have, maybe I'll try some moisturiser . Thanks for your reply.

Hi I was allergic to something I put on my scar to help it heal!ended up with an itchy rash, the chemist gave me a tube of aqueous calamine cream it was amazing the itch stopped immediately, I know its a different thing but it may be worth a try I also got it free under the minor injuries scheme char

Luckily I haven't been allergic to anything I've used although I wonder if this is some kind of allergy.
