Hi all. My husband has Afib, has had cardioversion although I don't think 100% successful, and today has an echocardiogram (first one).
The person carrying this out is "A Technician" 😬. Can anyone advise how long it takes to get results / the procedure afterwards. Is it usually an appointment with the cardiologist / GP?
Thank you x

Hi, unfortuntely, there is no set time with so many various factors involved. It could be within an hour, the same day, next day, this week, next week or later.
I've had them all, including not being told the results, as there was nothing to tell. All my discussions have been with hospitals, and not GP.
Morning, echo scans are usually carried out by a sonographer, I am normally about half an hour, you just lie on your side, they put gel on and thats about all there is to it,it can be a bit uncomfortable lying in that position but no other discomfort, they also scan the top of sternum and the bottom of it,the sonographer won't tell you anything at all, I have found some don't even speak! I think it is a difficult job they do, I usually see my consultant after it and get my results immediately, I hope it goes well char
In my practice, the result of the Echo is sent to the GP. In the fullness of time. I believe that a cardiologist has to sign it off. So you will have an assigned cardiologist. You could try phoning his/her secretary if you are concerned.
Thank you all. We are going away on Saturday for the week but we've got our phones and it's only in the U.K.All this not knowing is hard but that's how it is.
If you're assigned a cardiac nurse, phone her and ask. Mine normally phones me with the results the day after.
Ive had three done, all whilst in hospital, the "top line" results have been given to me there and then......basically words i want to hear like "your heart is pumping very well" "your valves are all functioning perfectly". The last one I had was about three months ago, boy did he press on with the scanner, he was very thorough.
