My left foot has been swollen for the last 6 weeks. There is a slight rash that goes up the ankle onto the lower leg. I’ve sent my GP photos and she prescribed an antibiotic cream which hasn’t helped. When I press on the rash it disappears, it is also itchy and hurts to touch. I find it most uncomfortable when I’m in bed. I have HF and have been in touch with the HF nurses about it but, they don’t seem to know what it could be or if it is HF related. Was wondering if anyone on this forum has had a similar experience? and could shed some light on this please. Thanks

Swollen foot
When I was taking amlodipine at a higher dose than I am now my legs and ankles swelled. Now I got the tiniest bite which developed into an itchy rash over my leg which turned out to be cellulitis and needed strong antibiotics. The practice nurse was quite alarmed when she saw it. If the cream isn't working I think you may need antibiotic tablets. Could you go to your local walk in centre? I think someone definitely needs to see your foot and ankle anyway .Let us know how you get on.
You do need to go back for medical advice. Don’t wait.
NO idea what it is b ut it's time your doctor saw you in person and did an examination. Insist on it.
Can be leaky blood vessels/ capillaries at the skin surface. This typically disappears on pressing, sometimes known as capillaritis. Can be side effect of some meds. I had swelling in feet with bisoprolol, and the blood thinner I am on seems to be the cause of this rashlike appearance, which I wonder if yours is also capillaritis. In which case antibiotic cream is most certainly not needed!
Thanks everyone for your replies. I saw a doctor face to face at my surgery this a.m, and she has diagnosed Phlebitis. As I am already on Warfarin she was a bit hesitant to give me anymore blood thinners. I have to be aware of any symptoms that could be a DVT or PE as I am on Warfarin for life because of blood clots. So, have to take Paracetamol for pain and has given me a cream to try and stop the itching. Once again thanks. I don’t think I would have contacted my surgery if not for your support, take care x
You need to be seen by a doctor - now!
