Eptopic beats

I’ve been up all day and night worrying for 2 days, I suffer from eptopic beats like the odd one etc, but this was different it felt like it wasn’t going to go back into rhythm for just a few seconds. But I felt my pulse and that was beating normal, my question is how come I felt these flutters and pulse was normal? Could it off been gas cause I burped loads after it

Try not to worry.I have sessions like this and I know it can be disconcerting but stress makes it worse. If it happens to you regularly just contact your GP and they can arrange a 24 hour ECG (wearable device) to check things out but some missed beats are perfectly normal.

Anything like mine they are just benign beats, I suffer from them most days and sometimes say if I bend over to do something or pick something up my heart does some weird beats it does go back in to sync eventually. Honestly not sleeping, worrying, anxious, stress will make it a million times worse. Get yourself in the doctors on a monitor or ecg and reassure yourself.

Hi thank you I went to the doctors today she just said it will be my Anxiety I’ve just got over COVID about 3 weeks ago which was stressful I have a stressful 2 days with my neighbours arguing and playing loud music for 2 days so that got me all worked up then I had that, I need to train my mind but i can’t get it out off my head because I do have eptopic beats but not a run off them, I keep thinking off it and I’m making myself Poorly and then the circle begins what if somethings wrong etc

Hi, I went through the same experience a few months ago, I became aware that for no apparent reason my heart appeared to be beating erratically which put me into a cycle of anxiety and insomnia. I was convinced that there was something majorly wrong and no doubt these thoughts made things worse, despite checks and assurances from several doctors at the time. Very gradually my heart rate got itself sorted out and after a week or so was back to something like normal although I suspect the odd ‘missed beat’ is still happening. The Youtube videos that Dr Sanjay Gupta of York Cardiology on the subject are worth watching if you haven’t already discovered them.

There is a link between ectopic beats and the vagus nerve, which runs past the heart to the brain and has a role in digestion, so digestive processes and issues like gas can trigger ectopics for some. For others, gas (and acid levels) can also cause benign palpitations of no particular origin: ultimately, the word palpitation just means a physical awareness of your heart beating, regardless of whether it’s in normal rhythm or not. My ectopics are worsened by stress, but also lack of sleep, so it’s possible that the not sleeping/stress of having the increased palpitations has actually further worsened the situation for you. It definitely would for me! As always, though, if you’re in any doubt, you should always seek a trained, medical opinion.

Totally agree with Eldon's comment. I too, started experiencing dreadful ectopic beats, & at that stage, I hadn't ever been told what they were. I couldn't get to sleep for worrying about them, on the 3rd night, tried again to sleep, by 11.30 my anxiety was dreadful, I said to hubby that I just couldn't handle it any longer, so got up and went straight to A&E that night. They checked me out, ECG etc., explained to me what I was experiencing and reassured me. Since then, they calmed down, I calmed down and now when I feel them (which is only occasionally) I just ignore them and they seem to go away.Good luck, it WILL get better.

Hello Hypo20061 - I get this everyday - not all day everyday by any means but I get it a good 3-5 times a day. I believe it is called Bigeminy - so I get an ectopic beat, a normal beat and an ectopic beat - this lasts for a couple of seconds and then my hearts normal again. I also get ectopics in isolation so each time I feel one I think oh please be just the one! I've just recently started Bisoprolol but I can't say it is helping much. Ectopics are AWFUL and I just wanted you to know you're not alone.
