Improving Blood Pressure

Dear all

6 weeks ago my BP was around 190/115. I have since lost a stone in weight and improved my exercise. I was put on 5 mg of Ramipril and my blood pressure dropped to around 160/100. Two weeks ago I was prescribed an additional dose of 5 mg of Amlodipine and currently my BP is around 135/90 in the morning and 125/85 in the evening with the trend being down each day for the last 5 days.

For those who have been in a similar position do you think these levels are sufficient and lifestyle changes (more weight loss etc) are now the likely route or do you think the GP might up my meds a bit more when I see him in a couple of weeks?

I have not had any real side effects from the medication thankfully.

Hope everyone is doing well and i send you my best wishes. Andrew

That's great progress!! I think it would be better if you can help it with lifestyle changes rather than more meds. Do you need to lose any more weight? Can you improve your diet - more fresh fruit and vegetables, less processed foods?

My surgery has put me on a course to achieve these results. See what your GP recommends.

Keep up the good work.

Lifestyle changes and more exercise over meds any day of the week.
