Shortness of breath and pounding heart?

Hi, for the last week or so I have been feeling extremely short of breath both at rest, but is exacerbated by exercise. My heart is also constantly pounding, its not beating any faster than usual but it just feels like its working a lot harder and I can hear it at all times of the day, and also feel it throughout my body as well as see it in my neck. I also sometimes get chest pains.

I am 21 and lead a relatively health lifestyle, but I am also in recovery of anorexia nervosa. I am really really concerned there is something wrong with my heart, like heart failure or mitral valve prolapse or something like that.

The problem is I can't currently go to the doctors because our country is in lockdown due to corona virus. I did go to the doctors about 2 weeks ago and my blood pressure is normal and he listened to my heart but at that time I didn't mention all the symptoms I had been having.

I am really concerned and any advice or help would be appreciated.

Thanks!

Hi Sarah. I understand that the starvation and severe weight loss of anorexia can have an effect on your heart. Best to try for a consultation with your doctor (and tell them everything this time!). Would they do a consult by phone?

Obviously you will need more extensive check from your cardiologist. But if you had anything serious, maybe it would be shown 5 months ago, when it was your first examination.

Don't strain yourself and wait for your next opportunity.

As already advised your symptoms are serious and a trip to the ER next time you have an attack is recommended.. worth waiting for a doctor.. double up on the mask and someone even a nurse can take your blood pressure and make sure these symptoms are evaluated
