Apixaban and Skin Reaction

I've been taking Apixaban for 18 months. I quite soon started itching in my scalp, forehead, eyelids, ears, neck, shoulders. I've been using a medicated shampoo for six months, to no avail.

I also suffer from a rare skin complaint, porokeratosis, on my arms and legs. This has flared up significantly over the last year. This could be just due to ageing.

Itching is cited as one of the possible side effects of Apixaban. Just wondering if anyone else has suffered any skin reactions from the drug.

No problem with Apixaban . But i had other skin eruptions and one due to swollen legs and ankles re. heart. Now gone due to better meds from more. knowledgeable docs.Skin is notoriously difficult to treat unless the symptoms are very obvious. Mostly they are not and they come and go.

Try washing your hair with Johnsons baby shampoo and see if that helps with your head itching.

Hi Peter, sorry to hear you are having this problem. I have been on Apixaban since last November and also having itching but really got bad after I had my aortic valve replacement in April. I had Atorvastatin added in to my meds then. I found using a good cream on my skin helped a lot. The itching I had was mainly on arms, legs and back.

Hi Peter. Sorry you have experienced all this. I personally have been on it for 8 months now and I haven’t had any side effects at all. Can your cardio team find an alternative e for you perhaps. Good luck with that
