Just diagnosed with severe mitral regurgitation and waiting for angiogram to discuss way forward. Worried about everything particularly low nighttime pulse rate. I am on two types of diuretics furosemide and spirinolactone. Anyone got experience of this?

Hi Kaysy,
Sorry can't help with the drugs, but just to give you some idea of low heart rates, mine is around 38-42bpm at night. has been lower on an odd occasion. I had an aortic valve replaced and it has been low ever since. I do take a small amount of bisoprolol (which is a beta blocker) so that may be part of the reason.

Hi Kasey,I had severe mitral valve regurgitation and an angiogram etc. I don’t know whether I had low heart rate sorry but it sounds better than a fast one ! I had a mitral valve repair in December and if there is anything I can help you with I can try and answer it ? The worry you are going through now can mess with your head but try and remember we are the lucky ones as we are being treated and looked after ! My surgery was absolutely fine and now I wished I hadn’t worried so much ! Best wishes x
Hi kaysy
I had severe mitral valve regurgitation, which I suspect, as it was caused by contracting infective endocarditis and was dealt with as an emergency, didn't affect my heart rate that I'm aware of.
On that occasion I had my valve repaired, suffering with a few side effects and complications. I subsequently had it replaced with a mechanical one 3 years later in 2019.
Although it is very daunting for the likes of us, for the surgeons and all the associated medical staff, this is what they train for and do on a regular basis.
On both occasions I had open heart surgery, I can honestly say that I felt in very safe hands.
One final comforting thought, is I would rather be in the system and under the care of cardiology than the issue be an unknown ticking time bomb.
If you have any questions, however silly you might think it is, please don't hesitate to ask.
All the best
Mark
