Heart Attack

Hi I am 57 year old female who had a serious heart attack 4 weeks ago. I ate a healthy diet and have never smoked and walked 10,000 steps every day and very rarely drank alcohol. Turns out it was hereditary cholesterol that caused it. I could not get a stent as it is the 3 smaller branches of main arteries that are blocked. I am on medication and see how that goes and may need a bypass further down the line. This has come as a massive shock and kind of feel I am left to get on with it and not sure where I go from here. I am exhausted but trying to get on with life as normal. I am back doing all the house work, cooking, shopping etc after one week. I think my husband thinks there is nothing wrong with me and i feel let down. I am also very emotional just now and feel like crying all the time. Any advice would be appreciated.

Hi

I am 49 female, had my heart attack 4 weeks ago. Complete shock, do not smoke, don't drink and had a healthy diet.

I had 1 stent. I am still very tired, not sure if medication, low BP or heart recovering. You do need to take it easy, I am only just slowly starting to do more. Was able to drive yesterday for the first time which was a bit daunting.

I get frustrated asking others to do things and I'm sure they are getting sick of me asking them, get the feeling that they all think I'm only asking them and not other family members!

My cardiac rehab has been brilliant. Have access to them online all the time, twice weekly Zoom meetings about various subjects. Got a face to face soon with a sports scientist to get a plan put together of what I can do.

I would suggest you call your cardiology department and ask to speak to a nurse.

Best wishes to you

Tina

This is a scary time for you both. Your husband may be shocked and in denial.

Are you doing cardiac rehab at some point?

Unfortunately for females the loss of estrogen can also contribute to our heart disease risk.

Do as the doctor's tell you. Exercise is good, be sure to follow guidelines .

All you can do moving forward is make the necessary changes to your life style.

I wish you the best of luck

Hi sunrise , I’m 9 weeks post stemi two stents , same as you they told me it was genetic, and it came from nowhere for me as well . My husband was and is terrified he’s working from home still as well . At first he did everything for me and all the housework but as soon as I started doing things , dishes etc that was it , I was back in my role 🙄 . There is only the two of us in our home though so housework wise and stuff there isn’t much to do . I guess from your husband point of view , you look exactly the same you sound the same nothing has really changed in you for him tk notice . He doesn’t see the turmoil inside you or in your head , at least that’s how I feel . Maybe talk to him , tell him how you are feeling inside explain how exhausted you are , show him this post , if like me you bottle things up he won’t know what is going on with you . Good luck
