Drain from open heart surgery opened and slight leakage.

Following open heart surgery the drains were moved, however one has slightly opened and leaking. Any advice of what I should do?

Hey Duffy14. That's not fun! I'd in the first instance ask if you can perhaps see a nurse in your GP practice as, in my experience, that's likely to be the quickest route to a medical profession who can then decide if things need to be escalated. It may for eg it's something relatively simple like a stitch has come loose and just needs tidying up, depending how recently your operation took place of course.

If it's any help or consolation after my AVR my drain wound caused me more discomfort than my OHS scar itself! However it never reopened, just itched and was painful to heal. So I would get it checked out ASAP for your own peace of mind as much as anything. Good luck and take care. Nic x

My GP sent a district nurse to deal with scar issues, dress it etc. It resolved in a few days. I couldn’t see the GP due to Covid so had to text them a photo. Suggest speak to your GP
