Fast irregular heart rate

Hi can anyone help me I been experiencing episodes of fast heart rate goes up to 160. I'm 26 years old. They seem to come on out of nowhere and no pattern. I be doing any activity then I feel my heart racing out of chest it also seems irregular going up and down. I also feel tired and lightheaded with this Untill it settles. I have also had days where its Drops to 40 and I be extremely fatigue with it . I been to A@E a number of times but usually by then I returned to sinus tachycardia. I also get told its panic attacks but it doesn't feel like panic attacks. I handed a 24h ecg in last week waiting for results but if its normal as I didn't have episodes that day. I don't know what to do. I went a whole year without noticing any but since they started again it hasn't gone anyway.

Hi. I have similar problem it’s been going on for a couple of years now. I was told it’s panic attacks but it comes and goes without any reason. I was given medication and I got used to it. But with me I get hot not weak and tired. I am now on bisoprolol. Don’t think it’s making any difference my self but apart from putting on weight and trying to prevent this things are ok. I was told if they last longer then a minute or so then go to A&E. but like you when they do the tests all looks fine. Not much help for you I’m afraid but your not alone.

Years ago I had a similar problem the doctors could never pin down. I had a holter monitor for a day- it didn't happen; had one for a week, still didn't happen. In the end I went for a stress test on the treadmill- still didn't happen during the test but when I sat down to recover they happened to leave the electrodes on and suddenly I had a run of fast heart rate and a lot of ectopic beats. Finally they were able to see what it w as and where it was coming from and reassured me it was perfectly safe and not a problem,. They were actually jumping up and down shouting "Yes we caught it". I do suffer badly from health anxiety, worrying the worst with every new symptom and in my case it was definitely anxiety triggering these episodes. They weren't panic attacks but anxiety can produce weird and worrying symptoms. The more you concentrate on these symptoms the more aware you are and the worse they get. YOu said you had a period where they weren't bad. Could it be possible you had other things taking priority in your mind and you weren't thinking so much about your heart? Just writing this reply has caused me to be aware of my heart and have a stretch of ectopic beats. The mind can do strange things to the body. Just a suggestion mind you. I'm not saying there's nothing wrong. If it is anxiety you need them to actually see it happening so hey can reassure you
