May sound a silly question but I haven't had anything explained to me as to why I have this monitor on for 24hrs obviously I know its to look at my heart but do they look for anything in particular?

You mean a portable monitor? I have an insertable loop and getting my 2nd portable tomorrow. A monitor is meant to catch heart rhythm during daily activities and during sleep, as to reveal possible anomalities.

You may need to report certain symptoms in a diary. If the portable recorder contains a press button, you should press the button to send time reports when feeling unwell.

The hospital has provided me with a leaflet in my 48-h portable. Any anomalities should be registered like an ECG does. It will reveal a 24 to 48 hours-ecg of possible palpitations and intervals. Based on the ECG, your doctor should be able to distinguish between certain arrhythmias.

That is not patient friendly. Ir they must have forgotten to add a description leaflet.

Hi my wife was asked to use one to detect night sleep patterns and heart changes it showed that whilst resting at sleep her blood pressure wasn’t going down so medication was adjusted 👍

HiAs said before its to get a recoding of your hearts pattern during a full day. One thing I have learnt over the past few years when dealing with the official heart crowd in the hospital and any medical person who suggests either a change or something new is to ask simple questions

- why am i doing this?

- what do you hope this change will do?

- how soon will any change take effect?

- What risks does this carry?

- What benefit should this bring?

Think about these typoes of questions beforehand and write them down to take in with you as sure as hell there's sometimes that much going on that you forget and then 5 minutes out of the room you think "I should have asked ...."

Hope all goes well and you're in good health

I was given one after complaining about palpitations . I also had blood tests . All came back negative , I’m a 53 year old female and have come to the conclusion that it’s menopause related !

Whenever I have a 24 hour monitor on, they never really find anything much. Most annoying. My heart seems to know when it’s being monitored.!!!
