Hi all, iv recently had my aortic valve replaced and a bypass of my right coronary artery. I'm in week 1 of recovery but am under no disillusion on how long recovery will take. I plan to return to boxing next year, would this be possible? I had a tissue valve so will not be on any blood thinners come this time. I am looking at white collar or semi pro fights. Any info on if this is possible would be fantastic thankyou, if you wish to know my age I am currently 40.

I would listen to nobody but your consultant. As an ex amateur boxer I know how extreme the physical demand, unlike football or rugby where you can “take a break”. There are not too many places to hide in a ring!

I understand the desire to downplay cardiac issues and get back to where you were before, or come back even better, but you have picked about the most challenging sport.

I wish you well my friend but please don’t take unnecessary risks. Ask your consultant!

Ps no disrespect meant to previous poster when I said listen to nobody! I only saw the post after I pressed the “go” button

I agree totally - I resumed scuba diving and took up cycling after a heart attack but at 68 I can’t imagine anyone, other than for comedy, paying to watch me box again!
